Eva Solo Thermos, Black

Considering this will last a lifetime, it might be an item to put on your wishlist (or your ‘when i’ve got money to burn’ list)…

“Eva Solo’s patented two-piece lid creates a channel so that every last drop will pour into your glass and not onto the table. This stainless-steel thermos keeps both hot and cold beverages at their preferred temperature and holds up to 1.1 litre of refreshment. Extremely sturdy, if not unbreakable, and available in either brushed steel or black lacquer finish, the Vacuum Jug offers both a flask design or a jug with an ergonomically tapered plastic handle.”

Braille Tiles

Yes, yes, I know we’ve all seen this before, but:

1. I kinda forgot about them.
2. I think this is the first time I’ve actually seen them for sale.

description: This wonderful collection of furniture and accessories made its debut at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York this past May and received wonderful press and critical acclaim. Lolah is a year-old division of a 60-year old luxury yacht outfitter based in Canada.

Featured here is the Braille Tile series; language and design come together in this collection of 28 tiles reflecting the 26 characters of the Braille alphabet, as well as a blank tile and the Braille symbol for #. Each Braille Tile is composed of a cast polymer with a matte white gel-coat resin. EcoSmart® Fireplace

I love the way minimal fireplaces look, but they often require a fancy architect. Here’s a solution that doesn’t require an architect, and as an added benefit, it’s being touted as an environmentally friendly open fireplace.

It’s Flue less, easily transportable, does not require any installation or utility connection for fuel supply. It’s fuelled by a renewable energy (Denatured Ethanol), it burns clean and is virtually maintenance free.

The best part about it is that the EcoSmart® Fires can be free standing, wall mounted, fully fitted into a range of personalised finishes, shapes and colors or inserted into a closed-off fireplace. The burner can also be inserted into joinery to create a streamlined bench top feature. Without the need for flue or pipe connections, EcoSmart® Fires offer remarkable design flexibility previously unavailable to the consumer.

Ikea Hacks

Speaking of Apartment Therapy, they’re currently running their “smallest coolest apartments 2006” contest right now, and I’ve fallen in love with many of the entries but I thought this apartment has the most innovative use of the Ikea Pax wardrobe doors I’ve ever seen. Vince (the resident) used it in his tiny apartment as a movable wall that let’s light in but also provides privacy and dividing the space for different purposes.

For those of you who are DIY inclined, there are several of really great usable ideas on the site.

Pax Stordal Doors, $320

Stolmen Post, $30

Total cost approximately $800

Gabbiano Washbasin

I really love one unit designs, especially for the bath. This lovely piece is solid surface Corian and it includes a chromed open waste plug, soap holder, toothbrush holder and stainless steel towel ring. (Tap set and drain not included).

I feel like I slightly have to justify the price on this, because it is high. But if you were doing a regular bathroom, you would spend at least $5,000 on cabinets. So I figure us minimalist types can afford to splurge on a really big ticket item like this because we could pass on the wall of cabinets and maybe get one nice storage piece for

Custom House Numbers allows you to select virtually any font and they will create outdoor lettering for your address. It also allows you to select height, width and finish options, whether you want your numbers to be hollow or solid, etc. They have a pricing calculator so you can weigh your options without having to email someone everytime you change your mind. Great resource for Modern Baths

I just found a great resource for modern plumbing fixtures that are not too expensive. Usually when you buy plumbing (unless you buy it all in a vanity), you have to purchase the drains and everything in an a la carte fashion. So I went though and picked what I would want to buy if I were remodeling my bath. Which I just might.

Far left is the Luka Vessel Sink priced at $247. Middle top is the drain, priced at $34.95. Middle bottom is the p-trap, also priced at $34.95. The p-trap is the plumbing that carries the water from the drain to the plumbing behind the wall. Usually they are pretty unattractive, but I was pleasantly surprised to find one so nice for so inexpensive. Finally, far right is the Roma faucet priced at $119.

So far, your new bath vanity is costing you around $435. Now all you need is a piece of furniture to go below it. This all depends on the amount of space you’re working with. You could have your carpenter just build a nice floating vanity. Obviously, you’d want it to be structurally sound enough to hold the weight of the sink and all the pressure that comes with using a sink. Not to mention you’d have to treat the furniture piece it to deal with the moisture in the area.

Not a bad starting point for a vanity make-over.

Flavor Paper Wall Coverings

Miss Lady Grace from Design*Sponge has once again found some amazing wallpaper. Although they were hit pretty hard by Hurricane Katrina and are currently without water, gas, or electricity, they don’t anticipate any problem in being able to fulfill any orders.

“Flavor Paper will resume printing as soon as possible, most likely in early November. We are now taking orders in exile and prioritizing them by date placed. An investment in Flavor Paper will help us survive, support New Orleans artisans, and improve your space.

Our hearts go out to those affected by the recent events. It has been a very difficult time for everyone.”
