4-in-1 Bar Tool

Handy! This bronze bar tool packs four functions in one. Break the ice, use the handle as a jigger, or unsheath the corkscrew that’s hidden within the bottle opener. Based on a vintage item, this updated version is a no-brainer for your bar area or as a gift to a friend that enjoys mixing drinks.

M Lamp

This little guy looks like he needs to star in a Pixar film, doesn’t he? Inspired by the archetypal miner’s lamps of 19th century, the M Lamp is powered by a rechargeable Lithium long-life battery, and if you’re asking how long is ‘long-life’ you’ll be happy to know that it is rated “to last 50,000 hours, for up to 2,000 charging cycles with no loss in performance.” Is that impressive, or what? A handle makes the M Lamp very portable, so you can move it around the home whenever you need an extra light.

Coleman Stool

Barstools can be tricky. The truly impressive ones seem to be quite expensive, and the decent ones aren’t cheap. So, what do you do? You keep your eyes out for certain designs that are worth spending a tiny bit more than you want. We’ll count the Coleman Stool as one of those, as it has thin, geometric solid steel legs with a handmade concrete seat. It’s suitable for indoors or outside, and there several good color options- black or white for the base and a seven seat colors.

Blok Marble Tablet Stand

Oh, not just any stand will do for your tablet? Okay, well, how about a hefty marble block? The Blok Marble Tablet Stand is made from Portuguese ”‹Acquatico marble”‹, which has a matte white finish with distinct grey veining. I think I can hear it whispering ‘I’m heavy and expensive.’ It will most likely fit in easily amongst your other postmodern paraphernalia. Designed by Dutch Studio Macura.

Tool Bookmark byAMT

If you still turn paper pages, you might just need a bookmark like these brass tabs by Alissia Melka-Teichroew (byAMT). One brass bookmark says ‘PAGE’ and the other ‘WORD’ so you’ll be able to mark your spot with precision. This set of 2 bookmarks were re-designed in 2014 exclusively for the Shop Cooper Hewitt in conjunction with the Cooper Hewitt’s exhibition Tools: Extending our Reach.

Brick Lamp

This lamp is reduced down to a simple brick shape with no switch or cord. How do you turn it off? With magic! Just kidding, it’s nothing that mysterious, you just lay it flat. The concept of concealing and revealing is at work here, with the light turning on when you raise it onto its side. The side facets work as handles as well as creating a sturdy base with an ideal angle of light. See HCWDstudio’s Kickstarter video below for more.

Urban Kraft Paper Bags

Judging by the state of your wardrobe, you might want to wear a paper bag. Whoa, calm down, I didn’t mean that in an offensive way. These Urban Kraft bags are made of paper -really strong paper- and have a look that will appeal to the more discerning eye. There are several different sizes and types of bags and they’re all at a rather reasonable price point. Take a look at the Duffle, for instance. You might have heard of Superfront, but did you know they have legs that fit Ikea’s mattress bases? And those legs can be shipped to North America? That means you can get a sharp look for a whole lot less than buying a regular bed from a decent retailer. There’s five leg styles to choose from in lots of different colors, so have some fun and play around with what you’d pick for a bedroom upgrade.

A few Pocket Wall Organizers could be just the thing to get your work area tidied up. Made of polypropylene, the rounded pockets come in several appealing color options. Leoht Tote

A handbag? I know, I know, we don’t normally post handbags, but stick with me here, because this particular one has something that’s worth talking about. It may not be enough to convince you (or the others around you) to abandon your (their) current It Bag, but it does offer some pretty cool technology that we’re hoping will soon catch on when it comes to luxury brands.

    Clothes Rack by Ferm Living

Would you like an alternate version of this other clothing rail ($399) we posted a while ago? Well, Ferm Living has a rather similar idea in the clothes rack you see above. An iron rod hangs from the ceiling by harness leather belts, so there’s a material/textural difference- a nice touch, don’t you think? Your wallet will be happy that it’s less expensive than the other one, and your clothes will be overjoyed they’re not on the floor (again).

    Neon Mfg. Signs

What if neon signs were more affordable? Maybe you would snap one up faster than you could say ‘do i really need one’ or maybe you couldn’t care less. Either way, some of us like that neon glow, and will spend the next few minutes contemplating just what word or short saying we’d most like to see each and every day, and then we’ll be happy that we could order a sign with up to ten letters for $350. Neon Mfg. also has plenty of pre-made options that might work for your wall as well: ‘Hustle‘ and ‘What If‘ ($125 each) are my favorites.

    Senz Windproof Umbrella

In preparation for the upcoming April showers, let’s ask ourselves this: do we have a decent umbrella? And, by ‘decent’ I mean one that won’t upturn at a gust of wind, nor frustrate us with its finicky folding/unfolding. Yep, it’s just as I thought. Most of us could use an upgrade to a Senz Windproof Umbrella.

The Senz has an aerodynamic shape that resists winds of up to 62 miles per hour (let’s hope you’re inside should that occur) and has a strong rib construction that prevents it from inverting. I bet you’ll be the envy of your fellow commuters during the next rainstorm. Maybe even your coworkers will admire your arrival to the office, mostly dry and somewhat happy, and wish they could be more like you… for the umpteenth time, of course.
