Another coat hanger? You might think this is an intervention for your messy hallway, but really, it’s just because the weather is so cold and wet out there, that I can’t help but show hooks and hangers for you to hang your hat (and coat). The Coat Hanger by Norm Architects is slightly different from the others featured recently; it’s a long, vertical rod attached to the wall with one hook and two levels for your shoes/bag and other small sundries. Hmm, here’s something different in the world of bookends. Instead of two separate stand-alone ends, this book binder has an elastic band to hold the books together. The flexibility of the band allows you to remove or add books as you like without them tumbling over and also makes it possible for the stack to be freestanding wherever you wish.

Here’s an oak coatrack to ease your entryway woes. Where to hang your bags and coats? Three steel hooks off to the left take care of that. Where to check your face before you leave the house? You know what’s cool? A floor to ceiling LED light designed by none other than Konstantin Grcic. I swear, I want everything he’s designed, and this ultra-flat light disk hung from a wire is currently at the top of my list (if only I had a place to put it). The light is directable over 360 degrees, so use it as a reading light in the living or bedroom, or just hang it in a corner for an ambient light source. A cone-shaped counterweight keeps it in place.

This console shelf has a few tricks up its sleeve. Three interconnecting parts allow you to change its function slightly. An angled surface fitted on top of the base has a parapet edge can hold hangers or other necessary items in place, or use the level surface piece for more stable items. Each section is all made from the same piece of wood to minimize waste.

Save your dollar bills (or your tax refund) because Resident Studio has a few new lighting options available. The Foundry Floor Light by Nat Cheshire, shown above, stands at 6 feet 2 inches high and has a minimal rectangular frame. The LED light source shines warm light onto the hand-cast bronze base, providing ambient light in a large, vertical visual space. The entire impression is more sculptural object than useful light source, but, hey, in this case, it can be both.

Before you turn your brain off for the weekend, here’s a little house candy to consider. The Maison De Gaspé by la SHED architecture is oriented around a central family space. As is the trend, an open common area provides a clear view of the kitchen, living, and dining room, and the overall neutral color palette of this space allows a bright pop of red in the staircase to stand out. Maybe you’re not gutsy enough to make such a strong statement with your staircase, but it’s worth considering in a smaller space, maybe with a different semi-vibrant color, to add a little unexpected punch to your home.

An oxidized iron X-base provides support for solid (sustainable) mango wood planks while smaller touches of polished aluminum adds a hint of industrial gleam. Inspired by old Swedish tapetserarbords (wallpaper tables), the designer Jonas Wahlström intends for this table to be just as suitable in the dining room as in an office or workspace.
