You won’t like the price tag, but you will probably grow to like- or even love- Wrk-shp’s 3 Leg Table. It’s a little quirky but also entirely minimal and simple in its approach to providing a surface and a light. Three steel legs, one of which houses the fabric covered cord of the light fixture, balance the console-sized wood top, resulting in a perfect piece to live in an entryway or hallway. Concrete facing on the drawer and feet adds further interest to the mix of materials.

Maybe you have the NYC Subway map memorized, and, if so, good for you. The rest of us rely on our smart phones when we’re in the city, and, oh, the horror when our battery dies and there’s not a reliable map to be found street side. If we had a NYC Transit Kerchief (or a Crumpled City Map), we could pull it out of our bag or pocket and then proceed to our destination without missing a beat. (We’ll avoid thinking about what happens when you’re sick and you badly need a tissue as well as directions.)

What is this, you ask? It’s a Corner Hanging Bar, and it has come to rescue that pile of clothes on the floor. Now, this might be handier to have during the winter months, as there are all sorts of scarves and coats and such that seemingly multiply without so much as a second glance, but summer has its array of accessories as well. And, if you need some extra hanging space, this bar is a heck of a lot prettier than this guy, so you could put it out in the open in an unused corner space and not worry about building out an actual closet.

Let’s be honest: some of Tom Dixon’s products look like they should be on the altar of some strange, futuristic church (Cog Candelabra) or else an excellent receptacle for cremains (Beat Vessel). That might sound a little morbid or serious, but I mean it as a compliment. For instance, the Plum Cocktail Shaker could easily live in some sacred place with its bright copper plating. However, considering its purpose, best use it as intended; you’ll enjoy it more that way. The tapered ends help make the shaker easier to grip and the cap functions as a spirit measure or shot glass.

The old peg board: we all know it has its usefulness, but it could stand for a makeover. That’s the thought behind Human Crafted’s Peg Board. Made by hand from machined walnut, each board also comes with a bungee cord, which gives the board various storage functions. Choose a few accessory hooks and you have more possible customizations for specific items (kitchen tools, keys, etc.). Combine all three sizes for a bigger board, or just choose one for your essentials.

You know when you’re riding your bike or walking on the street and all of the sudden it starts to rain? You have to stop, get out your rain gear- if you have it- and put it on, then pedal or walk to your destination partially soaked, which is really no fun at all. That’s exactly where this backpack comes into play. A jacket ejects out of the backpack quickly (see the video below) to cover you and your pack sufficiently. It’s slightly super-hero-ish, and looks pretty easy in terms of function and use.

If you’re going to have anything on your desk or dining table called a ‘caddy’ you might as well make it gold, or gold-plated, at least. A black pine handle shows off the oh-so-shiny gold, and it could hold your mail, pens and notepads just as easily as flatware and napkins. Less is usually more, so don’t go overboard with other gold accessories. You don’t want to blind coworkers or family members with your show of wealth, now, do you?

Do you see the size of this Reclaimed Wood Tree Swing? Sure, there’s a little kid in the photo, but it’s still pretty sturdy in terms of length, width, and depth. If money was not a concern, I’m sure many of us would opt for one of these pendants designed by Resident Studio. Aluminum or brass channels have LEDs hidden inside to keep the shape extremely clean and sculptural. The results are a group of light fixtures that double as art objects; each could provide a modern contrast with more traditional interiors or fit in easily with similarly minimal/modern furnishings. I know, a serving tray is not on the top of your list on this Monday morning after the holiday weekend. I wouldn’t care much either, except it’s the Perimeter Tray, and if you remember from our previous post last year, it normally retails for $195. And now MoMA Store has it on sale for $139.95 ($125.95 members). That’s a price that one could afford for a nice tray made of reclaimed walnut hardwood veneer, isn’t it?

Fire and being outdoors go hand in hand, don’t they? There’s lots of options available to house a small fire, but I doubt any of them come close to the efficiency of the Chimney Box by Tom Goodson. Handmade in Texas, each Chimney Box is made out of 1/4 inch, 1/8 inch and 14 gauge steel. A triangular shaped hearth allows for wood to be burned “teepee” style; this design allows for a more efficient combustion as well as better smoke control. What else? Moon Dominoes! I’d guess almost all ages could play this game, though don’t let any small children/toddlers get anywhere near this lovely painted wood set, or else you’ll have small bite marks all over them. Designed/made by Fredericks & Mae, who also happen to have some new products that are very notable and will no doubt be featured soon (Bushel Brushes? So very fun). There’s also other games available at Fredericks & Mae: Darts, Bocce, Backgammon, Checkers, Dominoes (Flag, Moon, Star), Beach Tennis, Marbles, Foosball, and a game called Hallelujah (I can’t be bothered to find out what that’s about).
