Can you believe that the United States has still not fully embraced the metric system? Do your part by using rulers that have both customary and metric measurements, just like this Ruler Stick you see before you. It has inches on one side, which you know and love, and centimeters on the other. Brought to the Cooper-Hewitt Shop by KIOSK.

Hi-Reflective Umbrella

A black umbrella in rainy weather doesn’t make much sense, as you run the risk of blending in with the background and being invisible to oncoming traffic. Now, this Hi-Reflective Umbrella would certainly ensure your visibility, as it reflects the light off of street lamps and headlights to make sure you shine.

28d Table Light

A grey crochet cable coils up to create the base of this blown glass sphere light, allowing the light to comfortably sit on any horizontal surface. While there are many color choices available, you might opt for the clear glass sphere (shown above) if you’d rather keep a quiet color scheme. Heartwarmer Cushion

In a reluctant nod to the holiday that is Valentine’s Day, I present you with the Heartwarmer Cushion. It may be placed in the microwave or freezer to warm or cool whatever region that may need it. (Considering the very cold February we’ve been having, the warmth of a heart-shaped cushion on toes and fingers would be especially nice, wouldn’t it?)

    The Dash: Wireless Smart Headphones

Wow. That’s one word to wrap up my impression of these in-ear headphones. Let’s cover the basics: The Dash is a pair of completely wireless stereo earphones. You can play music through a Bluetooth connection or use the embedded 4GB/1000 song music player. They can also keep track of distance traveled, steps taken, cadence, heart rate, oxygen saturation, etc. Want to talk on your phone through the headphones? Sure, they do that with an ear bone microphone. And, if you feel safer with a little ambient sound while you’re out running, you can choose to reduce the noise isolation with a quick swipe on capacitive touch surface.

There’s a little bit of the future as imagined in the movie Her, but I’d say in this case, that’s a good thing. Learn more over at Bragi’s website or their Kickstarter page.

    Black Steel Stool

Now here’s something we all want to see more of: multifunctional furniture. The Black Steel Stool by Noon studio is an interesting seating option on its own, but pull a few together and you have a coffee table; stack several straight up, and you have a bookcase. The wooden y-frame supports a simple metal sheet, and the two materials joined together provide a visually appealing warm/cool contrast.

    One, Two vs. Adnet Mirror

How about a little mirror rivalry? To be more specific, buckled leather mirror rivalry. Gubi’s Adnet Mirror, above, on the right, has long been admired, but unfortunately its $700-$800 price tag is a bit too high for everyone’s wallet. Now, the mirror on the left is two inches shy of the Adnet’s 18 inch diameter, but it costs considerably less. Any guesses as to the price difference?

    Grain Pendant

At first glance, this Grain Pendant looks like it has a simple aluminum shade. However, take a closer look and you’ll see that the shade is formed over a wooden mold that has been sandblasted, and, during the shade’s metal spinning process, the patterns of the wood grain are impressed on the shade’s underside. Read more about the Grain Pendant’s case study over at Brendan Ravenhill’s site.

    Coveted Things Scarves

If you’re in a love-fueled craze and don’t have a lot of money to spend, then maybe you could get the object of your desire one of these scarves from Coveted Things. Full disclosure though, the scarves may also double as baby blankets, so be sure your message is entirely clear: “It’s a SCARF for your lovely NECK…” or something along those lines. There’s nothing too fancy, they’re 100% cotton, but the script itself will carry your message across.

The final length of the rod is determined and cut by you, the end user, to specifically fit your windows.
