Avva Keeper

Very similar to the Avva S+P Shakers, the Avva Keeper features embedded magnet closures to keep contents secure. What you put in this little container is entirely up to you; it’s sized for those smaller things in life- keys, cufflinks, coins- that need safekeeping, especially as those small, important things tend to hide or disappear completely just at the moment you need them.

Smoked Grey Table Vessel Light

The Plumen bulb looks especially appealing in this blown glass form by Decode, doesn’t it? The subtle color tint softens the light ever so slightly while the glass gives an irregular reflection that accentuates the form. In other words, it’s pretty. Also, don’t forget you can purchase the Plumen Bulb separately for your own existing light fixture should it need an upgrade.

Milton Glaser at MoMA Store

Show your love for Mr. Glaser in the form of a timepiece on your wrist or on your wall. The Sprocket Wall Clock is shown above, but as hinted in the previous sentence, you can wear a wrist version if you prefer. Shown below is the Presto Wall Clock, featuring a blue face with white perforations that change throughout the day (wrist version: Presto Watch).

Cupboard

Storage pieces don’t come cheap, so after you digest the price tag of this Cupboard, take a look at its sliding doors and think of the different ways you might choose to display certain keepsakes. Thanks to the lack of hardware, the doors may remain open or closed without looking messy, giving you various options for storage versus display. This piece is made from high-quality birch plywood- straight from locally harvested forests, of course- in Belgium.

Photostrap

If you’re semi-serious about photography, you need a good camera strap. And, hey, if you can get one that’s a little more customized to your color preference, and maybe even with a monogram on the shoulder pad, then that’s even better. Should you need further encouragement, 10% will be donated from every purchase to Fotolanthropy, a non-profit that gives portrait sessions and short films to inspiring people who are overcoming adversity.

    Waiter/Waitress Tables

Now, we can all agree that these two tables aren’t cheap (even on sale), but let’s pay attention to the fact that each one can be positioned in different ways for different functions. If used in the C shape position, the tables can nest under and over a seating surface, giving you a very handy tabletop for a drink or device (or both) without taking up too much floor space. Or, perhaps you like breakfast in bed? Either table could be the perfect resting spot for your morning coffee/tea and breakfast plate. As these tables are relatively slim, I’m guessing that they’d be easy to move around your home as needed.

    Desk set, Matte Black

If there are multiple paperclips and post-it notes scattered about your desk, you and I have something in common. Maybe we should consider these handcrafted paper boxes by Timothy Wikander of MaterialMaterial. In addition to the desk set you see above, there’s also a small box w/lid and a large box w/lid, any of which is sure to hide/store our miscellany with subtle style. Each box is constructed from 2 mm grey board (the same material used in hardbound book covers) and coated in smooth matte textured card stock.

    October Playing Cards

My neighbors have their Halloween decorations up, so I feel it’s permissible to post a seasonal item. It is October, after all, and you might just need a new deck of cards to have around for games with friends and family. 52 frightfully good illustrations by Steven Noble graces this deck of October playing cards, and you’ll be appropriately spooky should you choose to carry them around for the next few weeks.

    MIDORI MD 2014 Monthly Notebook

It’s October already, and you know what that means. Besides getting your Halloween festivities sorted, your Thanksgiving plans arranged, and your subconscious started on options for special holiday gifts, you need to find a decent monthly planner for 2014. No? Lucky you. Yes? Join the club. I’ve been on the quest to find the perfect (i.e. minimal) monthly planner for what seems like forever, and though Moleskine and others have come close, I think this one by MIDORI (and available from Baum-Kuchen) might just win first place for 2014.

With plenty of negative space on each monthly calendar, there’s oodles of room to make notes. Memo pages are divided into eight sections for optional weekly pages and there’s plenty of blank pages for extra sketches or notes. Last but not least, the MIDORI Monthly Notebook is bound by strings, so the planner opens flat for easier writing and perusal.

    Push Pull Rotate Door Knobs

While these door knobs from Brinks Home Security aren’t as visually appealing as a minimalist/modernist would hope, they do pack a certain punch in terms of function. Simply push, pull, or rotate the door knob to open a door. Have your arms full of groceries/kids/laundry/etc? Use your hip/elbow/knee/whatever to push the knob and open the door.

    Infinity Rose Square Mirror

What’s better than a square mirror? A rose square mirror, because you can finally take off those ridiculous tinted glasses you’re always wearing and just stare into the mirror instead. It’s a sure thing that a rose mirror is a different way to throw light around a room, and it will no doubt add a little bronze edginess to an interior. Available in a square, $149, or narrow version, $129.

    Wintercheck 06/08

What happens to orphaned furniture? Often they end up in a very sad place called the landfill, sitting unused and unloved. Wintercheck Factory has saved a few pieces from this slow death, and, with some upgrades and additions, they’re now available online for your purchase (at not bad prices, I might add). Pictured above is the Felt Top Table, $375, who in a previous life sported a linoleum top and was drawerless.

    Tangram City Sculpture Puzzle

This grey conglomeration might perplex you at first, but it’s actually a puzzle that doubles as
table décor. You’re most likely familiar with tangrams, those puzzles with seven flat pieces meant for rearranging in a certain shapes, and this tablescape takes that idea into 3D territory with each piece being a part of a miniature city landscape.

Each piece is made of solid concrete, so you’d be smart to place them well out of any small child’s reach, but that said, it would be an interesting piece to have out and test yourself occasionally on making certain shapes (exercise for the brain!).
