Here’s a different sort of alarm clock whose sound depends entirely on what you put in front of it. Huh? The signal sounds like a woodpecker drumming against a tree, but if you put a vase of water, or some other vessel or surface, against the ‘beak’ or nose, then you’ll create a different sound. Unfortunately, it’s available only to residents in the UK or Europe, but you can put your name on the waiting list if you live elsewhere. Watch the video below to hear/see an example.

What the what?! This strange 3D play on perception is called a door-less credenza, or bookcase, if you prefer. Walk around it and you’ll see its surfaces shift and change according to the light and your point of view. See it with books (image below) to help your brain make sense of it. September means sweaters, right? And, if you’ve ever found a rather worn spot or a moth hole on your favorite sweater, you know the sinking feeling once you know it’s headed for the donate pile. Brass Bauhaus attack! And from Bestlite again, no less. Listen, there’s the bad brass tchotchkes you can find at your local thrift store, and then there’s the good brass, which you will pay through the nose for and not regret it. This wall sconce is firmly in the latter category. So elegant and refined, your visitors will wonder if you’ve just inherited a big pile of cash (say you found it at a thrift store and they’ll not come back asking for a loan).

A round, whirlwind of a rug is just what your [insert a room in your home] needs. Santa Fe’s Museum of Indian Arts & Culture (MIAC) partnered up with West Elm to revive a few patterns inspired by designs from an early 20th century Native basket, and there’s a couple of interesting options in the area rug arena. At six feet in diameter, this spinning triangle pattern will do a good job of putting a little pizzazz into an otherwise boring, ho-hum room.

Hmm, this looks quite similar to the Noble Glass Thermos posted over a year ago, and if deductive reasoning is correct, we’ll assume it’s made by the same manufacturer. Made of borosilicate glass, this bottle will keep your beverages the temperature you want- hot tea or coffee will stay hot, cool ice water/beverages will stay cool. The double-wall feature keeps the outside surface free of condensation and heat, and it comes with a removable stainless steel tea strainer.

Do you see the interesting pattern on the back side of these pouches/bags? It creates a sort of elastic mesh that accommodates all sorts of odds and ends that you carry around for travel- cables, adapters, or even your passport and other important documents. I picked up the smaller size for the cable/adapter storage purpose from a retailer in Sweden, and, unfortunately, I can’t seem to find any stateside store that has them in stock. So, get used to the idea of extra shipping fees or start bugging your favorite retailer to order a few.
