The Crankerator

Photojojo is, as always, full of great photography gadgets and such, and among their newest crop of items is this Crankerator, a.k.a. the Boost Turbine 2000. It’s a source of extra energy for your smart phone or tablet, and is charged via the crank handle or by plugging it into your computer or a wall socket. A full charge on its 2000 mAH lithium battery will fully charge your phone, allowing you to take those extra photos on a weekend hike or even make important calls during an emergency situation (it doesn’t hurt to be prepared, does it?). Also, check out Photojojo’s newsletter if you haven’t already- they send out photo project inspiration and DIY tips.

Fine Little Day Baby Blankets

Soon-to-be parents, relax, and don’t worry about finding the right sort of baby blanket, because Fine Little Day has it covered. Irregular dots (or little mountains) scattered about is just the thing for your little one’s room, and they’re refreshingly gender neutral, meaning that her or his not-quite-developed eyes won’t be drowned in an overwhelmingly pink or blue color scheme. And, if you’re not a parent yet, or don’t plan to be, just quietly spread the word that kids shouldn’t be subjected to this, ever.

Demi Lamp

This little guy is on sale, so snap it up if you thought or said ‘Ooooo’ with appreciation when seeing its delightful inner tube illumination. Mouth-blown glass reflects and disperses the light from the array of LEDs to create a warm ambience, making it a perfect choice for a room that needs a little extra, shall we say, je ne sais quoi.

Click & Grow Light

Remember the Click & Grow Smartpot? It now has an accompanying Grow Light to further increase your chances of making your plants healthy and your thumb greener. It requires only 3 watts of energy and has a built-in timer pre-programmed to 16 hours of light and 8 hours of darkness. Do I need to point out that this light is more for winter months than summer? Bookmark it for when November hits.

Moon Pot Mat

Shoot for the moon (!) especially when you have hot pots or serving dishes. I’d be tempted to leave this out on the table all the time, because, well, it’s the moon. Designed by Elisabeth Dunker for Fine Little Day. Made from HDF-material and moisture-resistant.

    Islita Armless Chair

In the market for outdoor furniture? Man, do you have my pity. It’s hard to find the right sort of modern look when you go hunting in normal stores, and you’ll see a plethora of teak and/or metal atrocities that will make you want to cry. Or maybe you do find the right sort of modern look, but you’ll have to sell your liver car to pay for the interest that will be on your credit card. That nice, expensive furniture will sure be comfy while you’re weeping outside in the summer sun because you can’t go anywhere.

All that to say that this Islita Armless Chair is $349 right now, on sale from $399. It fits with other pieces to make a sectional for a larger seating area, and the bi-level shelf in the back will be perfect for resting drinks and your summer reading.

    Food Huggers

Don’t worry, Food Huggers are not a group of people lecturing you about loving your food, they’re small silicone thingamajigs that help you save your fruits and vegetable from the trash or compost bin. The flexible inner edges of the Food Hugger seals in the juices so that your food won’t spoil or dehydrate as quickly as it would otherwise. How many times have you thrown away half an onion, tomato, cucumber, etc. because you didn’t use it in time? That will become a thing of the past with these little brilliant things. 4 different sizes fit all sorts of fruits and veggies, and they nest together in a drawer for storage.

    Fab

The following post is sponsored by Fab.

I don’t know about you, but when Fab first started, I was a little addicted to checking it everyday. Then, I slowly weaned myself off, reminding myself that if I didn’t look, I would be blissfully unaware of the everyday design steals. Now, after checking it again after weeks of restraint, I’m gob-smacked by the selection of items, some of which we’ve posted here on BLTD, and others that I’ll be bookmarking for future posts. Here are a few items that caught my eye, most of which are of limited quantity, so sign up now for a free Fab account to peruse the rest of their impressive inventory of design sales.

    Musguard

If you ride a bike, you need a fender, and if you need a fender, you probably will like the Musguard, a removable, rollable, polypropylene bicycle fender. Simple as can be, the Musguard is lightweight (35 grams) and easily attached: unroll, fold the seam, and tighten the Velcro strap. Remove it whenever you want by undoing the strap and rolling up for storage (see what I mean by easy?). Now on Kickstarter; see video below for demonstration.

    Echo Coffee and Side Table

You might be a little tired of hearing me talk about the new collection from Debra Folz, but you’re just going to have to deal with it, because these tables are pretty spectacular. The glass portion is made from four different layers, each having one color/layer of the pattern. As the layers overlap, deeper hues appear with a three dimensional effect. Now, the price is a little higher than you might like, but keep in mind those four layers of glass and the wonderful pattern they’ll project onto your floor.

    Green Light

Is this the best grow light you’ve ever seen? Of course it is, and I won’t have you saying otherwise. The light is adjustable so you can move it closer to plants, and extra water is collected in the tray which also protects the surface underneath. Oh, and it doesn’t look like you’re growing suspicious substances too industrial/awful either, in fact, it looks downright friendly. Now, let’s just put our heads together and collectively wish it to compatible with US outlets (or perhaps email the manufacturer directly with a request), for then we could all be healthier for ever after with our bright, green, happy plants.

    Floralia Kites

Yes, these kites are from the lovely duo known as Fredericks & Mae, and no, you may not fly them because they’re meant to hang on the wall for all to admire. The collection is in honor of the ancient Roman holiday Floralia and feature pressed flowers on rice paper fixed to a bamboo frame. Might just be the right sort of wall art to liven up a room in your home, though do be sure you keep it out of reach of little ones, as they might not understand that ‘ceremonial’ kites aren’t toys. Maybe get one of the other flying kites by Fredericks & Mae ($64) if you foresee any difficulty.
