Bamboo bee Bicycles

Bamboo! Bicycles! Add the two together and you get something that makes sense. Bamboo has a honey comb structure that naturally dampens those bumps along a street, meaning you’ll have a smooth and comfortable ride. More importantly, bamboo is a renewable resource, quite strong, and considerably light compared to other steel frames. To learn more, visit Bamboo bee’s website or their Kickstarter page.

Floating Tea Strainer by Kinto

If you hadn’t seen the title, you could have used your deductive reasoning to figure out what function this little sphere fulfills. There are the small perforations at the bottom, a little handle/ring at the top, and the appropriately sized saucer. For anyone who’s ever handled loose leaf tea, it’s enough to sit up and take notice, as this strainer looks to be very easy to use and then clean once the tea has brewed.

Stool One vs. Kaysa

It seems like everyone has an opinion on knock-offs these days, and personally, I always sympathize with the original designer. In my own home, we save up for the licensed versions of whatever piece we love, but I do realize that many people just can’t afford to do so and will sacrifice provenance and, at times, quality for a similar look. Which brings us to the matter at hand: Konstantin Grcic’s Stool One vs. the Kaysa Bar Stool.

Teroforma Bread & Butter Boards

If you’re serious about your bread and various spreads, take a look at the Teroforma boards. One is longer, for baguettes and such, the other shorter for regular loaves. A removable soapstone bowl nests into an opening which then serves as a hook or handle for storage or carrying. One side of the board has a sloped ‘well’ that will corral all manner of crackers.

Corniche Shelving

The Bouroullec brothers bring yet another lovely and functional object for the home: the Corniche Shelves. Put a few in your entryway for keys and wallets, or perhaps one or two in the bathroom for storing jars of cotton balls and q-tips. They’d look just at home in the living room with your smaller, more valuable items on display.

The Camp Chair

Whether you use this chair for an actual camping trip or just as an extra seat around the house, you’ll no doubt be pleased with its materials and hardware. It holds up to 350lbs and collapses completely to packable/stackable dimensions (18 x 5 x 21″), and if you’d prefer a stool, just fold the back down over the seat (see image below).

Burgon & Ball Garden Shears

Don’t make me talk about having right garden tools again. These sharp shears are modeled after a pair of classic British sheep shears and have a double-bow handle for maximum comfort. Perfect for clipping soft foliage and dead-heading, you’ll be able to shape or harvest your garden with precision.

Quad Trivet

Who knew a trivet was something to get excited about? It looks, dare I say it, slightly magical in the way it changes shape. The Quad is made from 16 wooden cubes connected by a heat-resistant silicone strip (not magnets, as I had originally assumed). Do take a look at the video below to see it in action, and then figure out if you think $40 is worth backing the project.

Bink 1025 Mobile Media Table

The very title ‘mobile media table’ is enough to induce an eye roll, as it conjures all sorts of questionable design. However, as the weather gets nicer, and as we begin to enjoy the outdoors with our laptops/tablets/phones, a need for a smaller, portable table does arise. The Bink is a powdercoated indoor/outdoor table that’s sized appropriately for your device and/or your favorite drink, making it a good choice for an outdoor patio or garden area.

GoodLife Key Tags

Maybe you’re perfect, but I know I’m not the only one that needs a little reminding every now and again to be a better person. And, hey, why not have a key tag that gives you some inspiration to do just that? They’re sort of perfect, in their old-timey, hotel-key tag way. Could be a good way to keep track of extra key copies clanking around perhaps?

    Lockwood Chair by Misewell

Remember this chair from Misewell? Thought it might be time for a reminder post, as there’s been a price adjustment since 2010. With a wood seat and steel back, comfort doesn’t spring to mind, but apparently this chair is quite comfortable, even without the optional felt back pad. Plus, it’s supposed to ensure good posture- we could all benefit from that.

    Bound Hand V1

$400 is a whole lot of money for a hand mirror. That said, if you’re super picky about every item that you use, and care about surrounding yourself only with beautiful, useful things, you’re not going to make do with a cheap plastic mirror from your local drugstore, are you? This mirror from Grain features hand-wrapped hemp twine edging for artistic detail and to secure the mirror to its wood backing. There’s also the Bound Hand V2 ($330) which features a hand-wrapped handle only.
