Soji Containers

Whether you use these containers in the kitchen for storing tea leaves or elsewhere to corral odds and ends, you’ll enjoy their beautiful Castor Aralia wood grain. Using one or two to organize those items you use often might bring a little bit more pleasure than storing those same items in a flimsy plastic alternative.

Lightbook

Shine some light on your books with this small portable lamp. It slides under books (or rests on top) to provide a diffused light right where you need it. I’d say it’s a tad too small for a proper task light, as you may note when checking the dimensions. Instead, consider it specifically for those dark bookshelves instead.

BLTD + Lost Crates

If you haven’t received your box from Lost Crates yet, stop reading now. Don’t pay any attention to the pictures either. However, if you haven’t signed up or find yourself still wondering if you should, check out this month’s picks.

ArchiBlox

Do you know a budding architect? Do you still enjoy playing around with building blocks? Either way, bookmark these building blocks of the achitectural classics. Each piece is magnetized to the base, allowing you to place blocks in whatever way you see fit. Be sure to check out the Chateau de Chambord and Neuschwanstein models (each $16.99); it looks like Amazon has all three.

Rubik Versus Minimalista

If you happen to be casually searching for a minimal console table, you might find a few that look almost identical. Case in point: these two consoles. Both have stainless steel bases with a walnut veneer top and both have similar dimensions; the only big difference is one has a price tag of $650 and the other $450. Can you spot which one’s which?

Paper-made Letter Opener

This looks more like a well crafted shiv than a letter opener, but rest assured its intent is for paperwork rather than protecting yourself in prison. But never mind all that, let’s get to the more impressive feature: the blade of this letter opener is made from a “fusion of 100% post-consumer recycled paper and a water-based resin made from cashew nut shells.” Paper + water + cashew shells = blade. Nice. The blade pivots between the two-pieced handle of poplar wood.

Geometric Birthday Card

Just think, some people pick up cards at the supermarket. Pfft. Not you, of course. You have more of discerning nature and require a card that shows your stylish restraint and superb taste, maybe a card along the lines of these geometric beauties. Choose the Oval or Cube shape in black or metallic gold; the recipient will find a debossed black or gold “Happy Birthday” inside.

Askew Shelves

Do you need some sculptural storage? Of course you do, who doesn’t? Debra Folz brings us these Askew shelves, which are, you guessed it, set askew to the wall. The drawer fronts are nicely crafted as to be almost invisible, and while it would cost quite a few pretty pennies to install several on a wall, it would look fantastic. Maybe settling for just one in an entry way (or as a beside table?) is a nice compromise.

Monthly Sticky Note

For us visual planners, a small overview of the month is pretty necessary, and these sticky notes seem like they would accompany our weekly planner or notebook quite well. Each pad has 15 sheets showing an empty grid; quickly jot down the current month’s dates and you’ll have your calendar wherever you want it. (The price is almost negligible, so maybe you can add some other fun sticky notes to your order; perhaps full moon, small maple leaf, or tetris?)

Poet Stool

This Poet Stool by Misewell might be a tad expensive, but goodness, once you take a look at the construction, you begin to understand why. The three legs are connected to the seat by mortise and tenon joints, which, if you’re not aware, is both a simple and strong joint that needs to be cut exactly to specification. Steel connects each leg, further strengthening the structure and providing a perfect ledge to rest your feet. Handmade and assembled in Milwaukee.

Leti Table Lamp

Here’s another price increase: back in 2010, the Leti Lamp was $369 for the small 12.5″h size, and now it’s $500. That’s a score for the ‘don’t procrastinate’ camp. For those of you in the ‘save until you can afford’ camp, you’ll be saving a little longer for this all in one eco-sustainable desk lamp and bookend.

    tld desk

This desk brings to mind the Primary Desk by Nathan Yong, doesn’t it? There’s a vast difference in pricing/materials/craftsmanship, of course, but they share the same idea of a small upper storage shelf. This desk by designer Jannis Ellenberger has hook-on storage: one white powdercoated shelf and lidded drawer that hang at any point along the ledge. (And, at $399 you definitely will save some serious cash compared to the Primary Desk at $1,800.)

    Socker Greenhouse

Hey, IKEA, nice job. For $20, a lot of us could do much worse, and even though it’s not available online (possible glass breakage during shipment?), it’s completely worth checking out if your plants need some tender loving care. The roof vents allow air to circulate as needed, and with any luck, your thumbs will start to look a little greener.
