The pieces of the Minotake collection by Japanese furniture designer Koizumi Makoto and Kohchosai Kosuga are quite beautiful, so much so that it’s easy to forget that they’re simply eating and cooking utensils. Utilizing the “natural curvature, lightness and strength of bamboo”, the spoons and spatula are ergonomically friendly, which, sadly, is rare to find in today’s marketplace. While the smaller spoons don’t look exactly suitable for soup, they do look quite perfect for rice or risotto.

It’s full-on summertime, so don’t forget to put the Röshults collection on your ‘what-to-buy-if-I-win-the-lottery’ list. They definitely have one of the best outdoor collections I’ve ever seen. These pendants get top points in the lighting-made-from-scraps category; both lights are made from the cutoff forms left over from the Merkeled Coat Rack. Each shade is made of powder-coated aluminum panels that are folded and fastened together, and you can hang them either straight down or slightly askew.

Here’s a toothbrush that allows you to rinse without the aid of a glass- it has a small channel for water to flow up and outwards to provide you with a fountain of water. And, the bristles may be popped out and replaced so that you can use the toothbrush longer and minimize waste. See video below.

Have a very nice weekend.

Ever since this collection was first shown in 2009, I’ve been waiting to see it show up on a US retailer’s website. Well, look what I just came across: The Future Perfect now carries quite a few pieces, and I dare say it’s been worth the wait.

Ilse Crawford’s spare ‘Seating for Eating’ pieces are contemporary interpretations of traditional seating and she describes them as “reassuringly familiar but carefully detailed”. Perhaps my favorite of the collection is the tall Settle Bench with its high back; it gives a space an intimate feel without blocking light or the view.

Remember the Wax Crayons from DWR back in 2008? Well, when they stopped carrying them, several of you wrote in with alarmed enquiries, thinking you had missed the boat. You had, of course, missed the boat, and no amount of substitutes (Block Crayons, Crystal Crayons, Crayon Rings) could make you forget the original. But now, these many years later, you may mop up those tears, for your misspent childhood is not lost forever. It seems as if a little internet sleuthing has turned up the same set, or as close to the same set as possible.
