Ooo, Ojue, little vertical lunch box, you. Here we are waxing poetical about lunch carriers left and right, and then you come along. Japanese brand METAPHYS has gone vertical with our midday snack, with three units that stack neatly in a slim line with a “minimized base area.” This allows you to reduce the bulk in your bag while commuting, and, perhaps just as importantly, it allows you to stack or remove the units as you wish to accomodate your meal. Hmm, what do we have here? If you have an extraordinary memory, you might just remember a tiny note I made regarding the price of an Acapulco-ish Egg Chair back in 2009. Often these chairs are priced around the $400 – $500 mark, which didn’t make much sense to me as I’ve seen them on porches of very humble abodes in Mexico and Costa Rica. Enter in MoMA Store, who now carries the Acapulco Chair for a mere $195. Hmm. The investigation continues below.

Bookends need not be fancy. Case in point, these utilitarian steel bookends from BOOK/SHOP. This octahedral* pouf would add a little geometry to a space while providing a very comfortable place to rest one’s weary feet. Never underestimate a good pouf or an ottoman, by the way, as they make a big difference in relaxation (as witnessed by multitudes who involuntarily emit a sigh of relief once placing their lower limbs on their own said pouf/ottoman). Back to the octahedron: this one is made by Ferm Living and is stable enough to sit on, if you should so choose.

Does this look like it’s straight from a farmhouse kitchen or what? Two stacking enamelware containers with a plate for a lid are held together with a stainless steel handle, providing a lunch pail to hold your fried chicken and apple pie safe and sound until your stomach growls. If minimal is your middle name, then this coat rack from Eastvold Furniture might be just the thing for your entry way. No floor space is required; the set of three aluminum bars attach to the wall allowing for coats and bags to be hung from the bend at the top. Here’s where the minimal comes in- one bar has a “palm” wood shelf (measuring 13″W x 5.5D”) for keys, phone, wallet, etc… if your pockets won’t overwhelm that, then you’re good to go. Handkerchiefs are a little old fashioned, but here’s guessing that you just might consider carrying one around once you see Izola’s offerings. These are some of the nicest storage jars that I’ve ever seen. Each glass container has a flexible silicone collar that ensures an air-tight seal. While they’re intended for functional kitchen storage, you could easily use them wherever you need a container, say, for organizing desk items or jewelry.

No matter that ereaders have most people eschewing physical books, some of us will always need plenty of tomes around us. And, for the current or special collection, what better way to display than this bookcase (or stand, as some would call it). Inspired by the Bruno Matthson Book Crib, the SSB-1 can be used alone or in multiples for a seamless-looking row. Combine a letter opener with a ruler? Sure, why not? Made from brass-plated alloy, one side has centimeter metrics with the slogan, ‘Follow the rules.’ The other side has inch metrics with the slogan, ‘Break the rules.’ Actually, it looks like that’s opposite from the image shown, so be prepared for a flip flop of slogans. Regardless, it’s always nice to see one tool with multiple functions.
