Marking Clips, Tool Set

Cute, right? These little clips might be an improvement upon your regular paperclips, especially as they could be used for bookmarks as well. There’s also a Fasten Set but it’s temporarily out of stock.

Package contains 30 metal clips (.5″ x 1″) in 3 shapes: Pliers, Wrench, and Hammer.

Google Pillows from ElasticCo

We posted the earlier versions years ago, but now that 2011 is out, it’s time for a reminder. Top Google searches are screen printed on cotton canvas, giving a glimpse to the most popular things/people/events/etc. from years past.

Bambica Modular Shelving System

Let’s face it, modular shelving systems are not pretty. Usually they look cheap, and if they don’t, it often means there’s a hefty price tag attached. Now, this system from Bambica has a little bit of an Erector Set feel thanks to the rods held together with plastic pegs, yet the bamboo saves it from looking too college dorm room-ish*. There’s fifty bamboo pieces in all, and you can combine sets to expand the system.

ӻEnvelope Calendar by pigr

Perpetual calendars are pretty much my favorite thing, and this one has an envelope. So, there’s ample space to collect receipts, invoices, etc. all in one place per month. Pretty smart, eh? Be aware that it is available from an Italian site, so there might be some wait time as well as additional shipping charges.

    Dovetail Animals by Karl Zahn

Yeah, the Animal Boxes sure were cute, weren’t they? Now Karl Zahn has created a set of three wooden shapes, whose dovetail joints fit together to form an animal. Collect more than one and create hybrids (see video below).

    Hankie Pocketbook

Can you think of a better name for this than ‘Hankie Pocketbook’? How about Pocket Square Notebook? Or anything else slightly less fru-fru than ‘hankie’. Of course, the dapper gentleman/women has permission to call it by anything he or she wishes, just be aware that there are alternatives that don’t make you sound like you’re a hundred years old (not that there is anything at all wrong with sounding like a hundred year old person). This notebook has 60” ”¬ruled pages of ”¬acid-free paper and is available in 3” ”¬colors”: ”¬Red”, ”¬Cream” ”¬&” ”¬Charcoal.

    Paint Chip Placemats

If your table is feeling a little dreary (January seems to do that to things), perhaps you need a few colorful placemats to cheer things up? Don’t worry, I’ll not mention that dreadful holiday that happens mid February, I’ll just say that the red color way is particularly lovely and warm. Oh, and there’s also Paintchip Table Runners too, if you’re interested.

    Binic Table Lamp

The Binic Table Lamp has long been on my admired list, but I had no idea that it was so petite. Measuring just 8″ in height, it was intended as more of a ‘take-away’ item, and its easy to move scale provides a very personal sized light. Designer Ionna Vautrin was inspired by windsocks on boats, and if she had to define the lamp in three words, she would say it is “cute, colorful, and small.” Take a look at the video below to see Vautrin discuss the lamp and its inspiration.

Bend Seating: Farm House, Lucy, Ethel

My-oh-my, what do we have here? Indoor/outdoor chairs from Bend Seating that mix old fashioned flair with modern geometry. The backrest of the Farm House Chair (right) is inspired by the architecture of old Amish barns, while the Ethel Chair (left) is the straight lined sister of Lucy (below). It’s enough to make your head spin (with longing).

    Antics Ant Blocks

Add this to your rather-nice-to-look-at toy list for kids. Sixteen blocks have trails of ants on all six sides, forming loads of patterns for little (or big) ones to explore. Again, could be an excellent gift for niece/nephew/etc., as long as they are 3+.

Each set contains images of ant hills, a queen with her eggs, and a spider, the ant’s nemesis.

    Magnus Stand for iPad 2

I know you’ve most likely seen this, as it’s been making the rounds, but it’s just too perfect to not feature here on BLTD. There’s no visible means of support from the front, so your view is entirely uninterrupted. This is done by the use of magnets, of course, and allow for the simplest design in providing you the right viewing angle whilst working (or playing, as the case may be).

    White Panelling wallpaper

Occasionally, panelling can add a nice architectural feel to a room. To be specific, I’m not talking of the dark vertical wood panelling that was popular in mid 60s-70s that you see everyone ripping out or painting over. I’m talking about white panelling done in a Georgian architectural style, as shown in the above photo. It adds a traditional element, and gives a nice contrast to modern furnishings and treatments.

Now, what’s special about the above photo is it’s wallpaper that appears to be panelling, which is just fantastic. While it’s not cheap (somewhere around £70 per roll), it most likely costs less than installing actual wood panelling, and it has the whole trompe l’oeil trickiness that us modern home owners love. Also, if you prefer a more ornate renaissance feel, Mineheart has a Stone Angels Wallpaper that mimics stone architectural details (shown below).

    Muuto Corky Carafe with Glasses

Carafes are often underrated, but possibly because there’s few that catch the eye and hold the attention (if only for more than a few moments). They’re extremely handy for keeping water or other refreshments at hand, and eliminate unnecessary trips to and from the kitchen or bar. This carafe set by Muuto is slightly oversized with a nice cork stopper that emphasizes the overall width and shape. Andreas Engesvik, the designer, was inspired by the archetypical bottle, and the familiar form is sure to work just as well at home as in the office.

    Lean-On coat stand

I’ve had this coat stand bookmarked for what feels like forever, and only recently has it become available through a US retailer. The Lean-On coat stand, you guessed it, simply leans against a wall, creating an easily movable storage option. Unfortunately, as is often the case, it is significantly higher in price and most likely out of the average person’s price range. Sorry. Check out the prices below, and we can both commiserate at how unfair pricing discrepancies can be when things are shipped overseas.
