Duluth Pack Canvas Tote Bag

How many totes come with a lifetime warranty? Not many, for sure, but this one does. This 15-ounce canvas bag has adjustable leather straps and one interior pocket. It’s sturdy enough for carrying firewood, yet just as suitable for carrying your laptop and work essentials.

Emtek Door Hardware

The front door is your home’s main focal point, so it of course makes sense to keep it looking presentable. My own front door was looking pretty sad after ten years of not-so-gentle use, with chips in the paint, battered hardware and a pretty rough looking dent around the knob (not sure how it happened, it almost looked like someone took a battering ram to it), so it was past time to give it a facelift.

After scouring many shops online, I settled on this door hardware set by Emtek. It has a satisfying heft, and obviously, is super modern. After sanding down my door, filling the dent with Bondo (several times), more sanding, priming, and painting, here’s the finished product:

Gifts Section

So, notice anything different on the site today? We’ve decided to scrap our Travel section in favor of linking to our Gift tags. That might upset some of you, but please know it’s for the best. We decided it would be more beneficial to access gift options than attempt to produce more city guides, and we do hope you’ll be happy with the results.

Just as a note of caution, there’s probably many items with purchase links woefully out of date; if you should run across one, please do send us an email so we can fix it.

Avenue Rug

Stripes! There’s nothing like ’em to add some excitement to a room. Designed by Ritva Puotila, this wide striped design is available in four color combinations and also (good news) treated to repel dirt. It’s made from paper yarn, but don’t worry about flammability as the weave is tight enough to “not ignite easily”. Feel better? Available in stone-yellow, light gray-gray purple, gray-light gray, and nutria-light gray.

Eserro Mobile Garden365

Remember the Food Map Containers? This is quite similar, as it gives you an option for a mobile garden. It’s 23.5″ wide and 39″ long (and 7″ deep), so there’s quite a bit of space to plant a variety of kitchen vegetables and herbs, if that’s your thing. Just wheel it out of the way when more patio space is needed, or indoors when winter begins.

iTwin

This new little gadget allows secure remote access to your entire hard drive. How so, you ask? Well, it doesn’t actually store data, it just gives you a secure connection between two computers. Intriguing, isn’t it, especially considering the interest in cloud storage and whatnot… You’d need the physical iTwin with you to access your data, and there’s an option to require a password, of course. And, if you should lose it, no worries, you can remotely disable it. Take a look at the video below and iTwin for additional info.

Perch Stand

Remember the Pinch Stand? After Clankworks received a bunch of requests for a wall based bike rack, they designed the Perch. Made of bent plywood, it suspends your bike from any wall as well as storing a few extra accessories like your helmet, lock, etc. There’s a small ledge for keys or lights too.

Blackcreek Mercantile Cutting Boards

A cutting board is one tool that most of us would agree is absolutely necessary in the kitchen (unless you have wood countertops, maybe). Each board from Blackcreek Mercantile & Trading Co is hand made from a single piece of wood (so, there’s no glue seams). Prefinished with their cutting board oil, each board should last for generations if used often and cared for properly.

Up Filer Universal Vertical Filing Rack

What better way to start off a Monday than with a filing rack? After all, filing papers is the most exciting thing in the world*, so therefore, anything to help that lovely job go faster/better is worth a gander. This filing rack differs from most in that it is a wall mounted vertical storage rack, which allows files and other flat content to vary by size yet still remain visible. Labels are located at the bottom of files, allowing for a quick visual scan, and the pivoting hanger allows for easy addition and removal of items. If you work with different sizes of paper/artwork, this could be a very smart storage solution.

Best Made Co. First Aid Kit

Do you have a first aid kit? Does it have all the essentials? There’s nothing like a shiny new version to tempt you into replacing your existing one, and this kit by Best Made Company looks good enough to hang on any wall. (So, in a way, it’s a two for one… life-saving kit plus wall art.)

    Last Newspaper Rug

Nice. Old newspapers are cotton-wrapped to form this textured rug from Blu Dot. I haven’t seen these in person, but it looks like the closer you are to the rug the more you see the newspaper… a nice detail in a room, I think. The price is pretty affordable for the size too. Available in three sizes (4’x6′, 6’x9′, and 9’x9′) and three colors (grey, purple and slate).

    Flat Vernacular

Chances are you’ve already heard of Payton Cosell Turner’s custom wallpaper made from stickers, as it was featured in Elle Decor as well as a smattering of design blogs. I’m certainly a fan of the idea of sticker wallpaper, and if I possessed an ounce of patience, I might attempt the idea in a small powder room or hallway. However, I might just settle for one of the other wallpaper designs from Payton’s website instead, as they would (hopefully) require a little less time to install. See my three favorites below.

    Salt Chair

Whoa, the Salt Chair is now down at $83.30 due to DWR’s dining sale. I believe that makes it the least expensive chair that DWR has ever carried (correct me if I’m wrong). The Salt Chair is a classic choice for a dining area, especially as it has a very compact footprint, which means less wasted space.

    Moss Terrarium Bottle

It really can’t get much simpler than this: all the upkeep needed for this moss to stay green is a few sprays of a water bottle. For anyone less than handy when it comes to plants, this just might be your ticket to having a nice little ecosystem, as everything you need is included (bottle, moss, soil, chopstick tools, recycled glass drainage materials) and assembly is pretty easy (see assembly pdf). Might also be a nice gift for a friend/coworker, perhaps?
