Shopnic

Goodness knows there’s plenty of totes to choose from nowadays, but this shopper is slightly different in that it has an internal spring to provide structure. When you’re not using it, it folds down to store easily in the back of your car or in a cabinet.

    Lap Shelving System

So, maybe you remember the Lap Shelving System feature from earlier this year (see the post for more pics), but now that it’s available stateside, I can’t help but shine a little light on it again. The novelty of the design lies in eliminating shelves in favor of movable trays and boxes that provide organization without additional storage pieces. The powder-coated sheet metal works nicely with the solid oak frame and gives a clean modern edge to the collection. If I needed shelving this would be a serious contender.

    Designed by Marina Bautier.

    Vermont Rolling Pins

Rolling pins aren’t the sort of thing to demand admiration, but in the case of these beauties, I’d say otherwise.

    Bluff City 14 Inch Pendant

Whoa, this is pricy, but it sure has a lot of style. Industrial leanings are evident with the wire-cage, but it’s actually the colors that caught my eye. The blue and red 8 Inch Pendant ($550.00) along with the mint and red 14 Inch Pendant (shown above) make for an interesting color combination, and with several grouped together, you’ve got a fantastic focal point.

Soup-for-lunch lovers rejoice, for Black+Blum has brought you the perfect vessel. This two-pot canister is watertight (so your liquids won’t leak), lightweight and BPA-free. The carry strap and spork are included, and when you’re done with your meal, the smaller pot fits into the larger one for a compact carry back home. MIO Crystal Drop Ceiling

Drop ceilings are rarely something to be admired, however MIO is changing that with FoldScape, a three-dimensional ceiling tile that ships flat and is folded at the installation site. Talk about an easy way to make a blah-ish ceiling interesting, huh? Available in 24 tile packs, the tiles are lightweight and measure a standard 2’x2′ size.

    Animal Wine Stoppers

These aren’t the first Animal Wine Stoppers you’ve seen featured on BLTD, but these are perhaps the funniest. You could probably recreate these with a small saw, some glue and a little elbow grease (and plastic animals and simple wine stoppers), but for those of you less DIY, these are available for $30 from designboom shop.

    Flour Sack Towels

One can never have too many tea towels. Just in case you need convincing, these old school Flour Sack Towels are $24 for a set of 4, which will replenish your drawer without breaking the bank. Flour sacks were often remade into tea towels, pillows and clothing many decades ago, and this set has that same sort of thrifty feel.

    The Satchel from Linus Bike

I like how this satchel can be worn on your back securely with a waist and shoulder strap or, if you’d rather be unencumbered, you can easily hook it to your bike rack. Magnetic closure and a padded sleeve for your laptop finish out the function.

    Standard Unit Blocks

I’ve always found it strange that in most relatively nice homes with soft fabrics and natural materials, you walk into a play area for the kids and it feels like you’ve been transported into an alternative universe where only oddly colored plastic is permitted. Not that there’s anything wrong with plastic stuff for kids (I’m certainly no expert on the subject), but why not add in some regular wooden blocks, just to offset the crazy colors and random imagery? Maybe with a little less visual input, a child’s imagination will have to work a bit harder. One would hope so. If you’re a new godmother/father, bookmark this for a gift idea when the little one is 3+.

    Utility Card

I love this. The Utility Card from grain works for all occasions- just circle the right words within the puzzle. A cheat sheet is included if you need a little help. Also, just so you know, the card is made with a tree-free paper that uses cotton fiber waste from the textile manufacturing industry.

$4 each or pack of 5 for $19.00.

    2012 Stendig Calendar

Seeing as there were Christmas trees at the local plant nursery this weekend (crazy), I suppose it’s not too early to lock in your order of a 2012 Stendig Calendar. Christmas trees aside, these classic calendars are produced in limited numbers, so if you’ve your eye on one for 2012, you’d do well to get it sooner rather than later.

LightCap: Solar Powered Lantern & Water Bottle

Add some solar power to the top of a water bottle and voilà, you have yourself a lantern. FastSolar technology allows for up to 8 hours of light time and the one liter bottle could also double as a waterproof container for your wallet or cellphone. It’d be perfect for camping, wouldn’t it? More details below.
