Fortune Posters, Set of 8

Just ran across these Fortune Posters from The Best Part. Each print uses phrases from real fortune cookies collected over the course of the artist’s life. Available individually for $10 or as a set of 8 for $50… not bad for art on a budget.

12″ x 18″ prints.

DIY Clamp Lamp from Lindsey Adelman

Surprise, amazement, adoration… all these things come to mind when perusing Lindsey Adelman’s DIY lighting. There’s currently 3 ‘You Make It’ designs* available on Adelman’s website, all with instructions and a detailed list of supplies needed. In case you aren’t familiar with Adelman’s lighting, normally the retail price range is in the thousands.

Check it out: ‘You Make It’ designs

*We’ve posted just one so far, the DIY Chandelier.

Readers’ Nest

There’s been a few similarly convenient book rests that we’ve posted (Studio 1 and Book Rest Lamp are two that come to mind) but this one has a bit more space below for a larger stack, perfect for those of us that prefer to have several books available all at once.

Nua Nest Set

These colorful little pod-like pieces would be perfect for putting by the door for small things like keys, sunglasses, phone, etc. They’re small enough you can hang a jacket or coat on top, which is a definite plus. Made out of rolled bamboo using traditional Vietnamese skills.

Comes in a set of five: One large red, one large turquoise, one small yellow, one small purple and one small blue.

Pail by Monika Piatkowski

A felt bucket, you say? Why would you need that? Well, it’s wonderfully soft and you could fill it with magazines, papers, knitting, toys, so on and so forth. It would be great for toting things up and down the stairs or to and from the car.

Cantilever Sofa by Noah Packard

So, I’d never really heard of StyleFactory, nor am I particularly entranced by voting for products only to find out they may or may not be made, but I am fairly impressed with this sofa. It’s very mid century (exactly the sort of thing you wish you’d find at a thrift or resale shop) and with the cantilevered table you’ll have one less side table to find.

Graphic USA: An Alternative Guide To 25 US Cities

Cicada Books presents Graphic USA, an alternative guidebook to 25 American cities written and illustrated by graphic designers. Graphic USA gives you an insider’s view of the best (and occasionally weird) restaurants, hotels, galleries, bars and coffee shops, all with quirky illustrations/graphics by the artists that live in each city. It’s quite like reading a friend’s notes on interesting places that you should see, with tidbits and paragraphs to help you along your way.

    Eames Molded Dining Chair DCM

Remember my little speech last week about adding more classics into the BLTD mix? Well, here it is Thursday and time for another piece deemed classic by many a mid century fan.

Charles and Ray Eames are quite famous for their experimentation in wood-molding techniques and their success in creating high-quality furniture that could be mass produced. The Plywood Group, to which this dining chair belongs, is made from a process that eliminates extraneous wood, which lightens each chair’s visual profile and weight. The seat and back are molded to fit the body, making these chairs a comfortable seating option. You might also be interested to know, if you don’t already, that this chair is in the permanent collection of New York’s Museum of Modern Art and in my own dining room (link).

The Eames Molded Dining Chair is available with either chromed tubular steel or wood base frames (DCM โ€“ Dining Chair Metal โ€“ or DCW โ€“ Dining Chair Wood).

    Cardboard Pendulum Clock

This cardboard clock arrives at your door flat packed and unadorned, ready for you to assemble and decorate in whatever way you see fit. I’d be tempted to leave it as is, especially as it’s currently available with laser-etched detailing of a traditional pendulum clock’s face (limited edition of 50). There’s also a smaller Cardboard Clock for ยฃ15.00 (see below).

    Framed Buffet by moca

This varnished buffet by moca is composed of multiple compartments in several different colours, as you can see. While it’s a bit high on the budget scale, the color options are entirely want-worthy and would probably jazz up any dull room in a split second. A black steel frame supports the compartments and gives a nice line to contrast with the visual blocks of color.

    HofArc Airstream Renovation

Architect Matthew Hofmann recently completed a contemporary renovation of a vintage 1970’s Airstream trailer, which he now calls home with his girlfriend in Santa Barbara, CA. A lesson in living small, the updated Airstream shows thoughtful use of space and storage as well as catering to the modernist aesthetic. Read Mathew’s comments on the project below:
