Starling Chair

A New Zealand Portage leather sling seat contrasts nicely against a white ash hand-turned frame; together they provide a comfortable lounge that would keep a seating area visually clean and light.

Starling was designed by Cameron Foggo of New Zealand.

TIPSY Serving Tray

For those of us that are a bit clumsy (or lazy), this tray would be a dream. Filled glasses and dishes keep their place even if you swing the tray, allowing you to move from kitchen to dining table to outdoors in a breeze. The loop at the top of the straps means you can carry even more in one hand if necessary.

Nylon handles are removable from the aluminum tray.

Blackboard Storage Cabinet by Peter Jakubik

A blackboard cabinet, offering endless ways to entertain oneself by drawing images, words, etc. on the doors… just how much do your fingers itch to pick up a piece of chalk and get busy making marks? I’m slightly breaking the rules by posting this cabinet, as it’s a brand new, handmade prototype and a only available through placing a custom order. All that said, you can purchase it by emailing Peter Jakubik (peterjakubik.info(at)gmail.com).

Wallpaper an Island!

Any of you who visit Tumblr know that there’s a whole haystack of images to sort through, especially when it comes to lovely interiors. I ran across this pic (via The Diversion Project) yesterday and thought the wallpaper on the kitchen island was a brilliant pop of color in an otherwise white dwelling. So, note to self: when feeling bored with one’s surroundings, pick out a colorful wallpaper and attach it somewhere unexpected like the base of kitchen island. Seeing as it’s a relatively small area, it won’t cost much and will be easier to change out than doing a whole wall or room.

Hans Wegner CH25 Easy Chair

Now, I know most of you are probably familiar with the bona fide design classics, seeing as they’ve made their way into just about a bajillion shelter magazine shots and are available from many a reputable retailer. I’ve long thought that there was really no need to feature all the well known names and designs here on BLTD, as it seemed a bit repetitive and unnecessary. However, seeing as we’ve reached well over 6,000 posts of notable products from hundreds of different retailers, there’s a huge gaping hole for all those ‘classics’ that we’ve sidestepped. I think from now on we’ll aim to fill in that hole, featuring pieces that are, at times, a bit expensive, yet always available to purchase online should you wish to add them to your collection.

Trestle Desk

The budget-conscious among you might just appreciate the $399 price tag attached to this trestle desk. It looks pretty decent (considering), with hardwood legs and ash veneer over a MDF core (you can’t ask for fancier stuff than that without paying more).

T-Shirt Chair by Maria Westerberg

This is a nice way to recycle your old t-shirts or jeans, especially if you’re the type that hates the thought of donating the softest (i.e., best) of the bunch just because of a few holes or two. This chair by Maria Westerberg starts out as a plain frame and becomes a chair after you add your own worn textiles. It’s also available with fabric from left-over pieces from sofa manufacturing (£580) already woven in, but I think the fun would be in making your own (plus, it’s more affordable that way).

Balls Table from Moooi

Balls. This is nothing new (2005), but I just noticed the other day that it folds flat for storage. So, in theory, it’s a luxury version of those horrible looking folding tables that have pinched all of our hands at one time or another and driven us nuts with their distinctive ugly appearance. (This looks so much better, of course, and costs quite a bit more, hence the term ‘luxury’ thrown in the previous sentence.)
