Cord Lamp by Brendan Ravenhill

Whoa, talk about being pleasantly surprised, this wall Cord Lamp by Brendan Ravenhill is one heck of a deal at $150. If I still lived in the US, I would buy two of these for bedside lamps and then sit back and congratulate myself for finding such a bargain. Simple, modern, and affordable? Music to the ears.

Here’s a selection prints from 20×200 for your viewing pleasure. Most prints are available in different sizes, and prices range from $20 for an 8″x10″ up to $2000 for 30″x40″.

Note: Most images are cropped to fit our slideshow format, fyi. Also, sometimes the slideshows load slowly, so patience might be needed.

Japanese Gardening Boots

Imagine if your wellies could fold up for storage, how much space would that save in your hall closet? A normal knee-high pair of boots takes up, what, at least 1-1.5 cubic feet of space? Flexible rubber enables these boots to be rolled up for storage, meaning more glorious room for other hall closet miscellany.

Cant Desk by Blu Dot

I don’t know how we missed posting this when it first came out. It’s the perfect desk for a small workspace (42w x 34h x 25d) so you can fit it into a tight corner space with no worries. The walnut veneer is a nice contrast to the grey or red steel as well.

Flax Rug

You might remember the Flocks Aran Rug by Christien Meindertsma, which features a thick knitted sweater pattern. This flax rug is part of Meindertsma’s Flax Project for Thomas Eyck, in which she aims to make a series of products from flax that are produced locally in the Netherlands. (visit christienmeindertsma.com to learn more). I like how it feels minimal and modern while its material (and production technique perhaps?) is traditional.

Vola HV1 Mixer by Arne Jacobsen

Kris did a post on the Vola Faucet a while back, but I thought it worth a mention to show the various colors. At $780 it’s an expensive choice, of course, but considering the fact that you’d be using it several times a day everyday, it’s probably well worth shelling out the extra cash. Plus, Arne Jacobsen designed it, so you’ve got an instant classic look.

Speakr Box by Buka Projects

This portable wooden speaker requires no batteries or power source and works with pretty much any gadget you own (mp3 players, iPods, phones, laptops, etc.). Nice to see a simple wooden speaker option for the desktop or for outdoor activities (don’t take that to mean it’s waterproof though).

Paint Chip Quilt in Blue

Here’s a very nice handmade quilt on Etsy, and although it’s a smaller size (crib/throw), it’s proof that quilts can be quite modern if handled the right way. You can request a custom quilt with specific colors from the seller; expect prices to run from $300 to $1000 depending on the size.

100% cotton.

Trash to Treasure, Noguchi-style lamp

I just ran across Brooklyn Modern today, and saw the post on this lamp made by Rodney Trice of T.O.M.T.. Can you guess what it’s made of?

An old, broken fan cover. Freaking amazing.

Life After Corkage Bar Stool + Ottoman

Hmm. What to do with 2,500 wine and champagne corks? Make an ottoman and barstool out of them and then sell it/them for $980 (I think they’re sold as a set, but I’ve got an email out to double check). Now, who has enough corks lying around to try a DIY version of this?

Whoa, update: it’s $980 each, not sold as set.

NoteSlate

No, it’s not an iPad wannabe, nor is it a new eReader. It’s got no apps or games or books stored on its memory card. This simple tablet device takes the place of pen and paper, that’s all. It has a simple real-paper-look interface that allows you to make notes or sketches for future reference, then save or delete them. With a long life battery (180h) and a $99 price point, it’s awfully tempting to see how well it would work. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until June of this year to actually put your hands on one, but it could just be worth it.

See NoteSlate’s website for specifications and details.

DIY Lamp 1, 2

So, if you don’t mind a tiny bit of assembly, this light could be yours for a mere £60. Compared to Muuto’s Wood Architect Lamp ($295), that’s not bad at all. Available in either a table or wall/ceiling/surface-attached option.

6 screws, 7 beach wood pieces, lamp holder, cable, traditional desk lamp shape.

Rip + Tatter Chair

Now, obviously, with a little bit of effort, you might be able to recreate this chair for your own kids without shelling out $55. If not, you can shell out the $55 and rest easy that it’s not so expensive that it can’t be destroyed (and then recycled, of course). Designed by Pete Oyler, the chair is made from industrial cardboard and “sculpted” into shape by hammering.

100% recyclable, non-toxic
