This tea towel is infected by a ‘Design Virus’. Designed by Pieke Bergmans (of Crystal Virus fame) for the Textile Museum, her aim is to create “personalized mass production” where irregularities are included rather than discarded.

Recently on a trip to Istanbul, I stayed at the The House Hotel in NiÅŸantaşı. I didn’t really take a lot of design notes (I was on vacation, after all), but it was pretty much impossible not to ‘ooo’ and ‘ahh’ over Autoban’s furniture and interior design. I’d seen this Nest chair in person before at trade shows, but it wasn’t until I saw it in the main area of the House Hotel did I fully appreciate how much of a statement piece it is.

Sure, it’s got the ‘statement piece’ price, but the chair acts as a sort of room on its own, mimicking the traditional dome chair shape, yet allowing light and air through the slats of the back and sides. It’s really an excellent choice for a large room that needs a pair of high backed armchairs to designate a seating area. There are some great graphics on these recycled billboard banner Macbook sleeves. My favorites are below, but there are a bunch more to choose from. All sleeves are padded with 6mm/0.25-inch of PE foam on each side and come with a velcro closure.

Filmaker Davina Pardo is working on a short documentary entitled ‘MINKA’, a story about a 250 year old Japanese farmhouse. Originally inspired by the book Minka: My Farmhouse in Japan by retired AP foreign correspondent John Roderick, the film looks to be well worth watching, and seeing as they’re still raising funds to finish off distribution costs, you can check out the trailer below or on their fundraising page to see if you’d like to help out.

You might have heard of the Buddha Machine, but do you own one? The Buddha Machine is a small plastic box that plays ambient loops, sort of like an AM radio except with specific tracks. Music that comes from the Buddha Machine is intended to provide calm and inspiration for our fast-paced lives, and can be experienced through the built-in speaker or through headphones. Dare I say that Carl Malmsten’s furniture is becoming trendy again? (Gasp.) I halfway despair when certain classic items become popular, because usually those cherished-from-afar pieces start to spread throughout every magazine and blog almost to the point that they lose some of their appeal. Now, in the case of this sofa, I have my fingers crossed that won’t happen. It’s just too elegant and timeless to succumb to that particular fate.
