Fat Tray from Alessi

This tray will cut your trips to and from the dining room in half. It’s a bamboo wood container with a lid that also acts as a tray, meaning you can put dishes and such inside and have a second layer to stack food or drinks. A moveable separator inside keeps things organized.

Six Books of Euclid

For anyone interested in geometry, this book is a must have. Not familiar with the name Euclid nor the images on the cover of the book? Here’s some context: Oliver Byrne (c. 1810–c. 1880) translated the theorems of Greek mathematician Euclid (aka the “Father of Geometry”) into colorful diagrams and figures in order to make learning easier. Considering the distinct Mondrian feel you get while examining the pages, it’s remarkable that Byrne created the original edition of Euclid in 1847.

Eames® Hang-It-All, Limited Edition

Huh? At first glance I thought this walnut version was very, very wrong, but then it struck me as a brilliant move from Herman Miller, as some of us would perhaps prefer a more subtle take on the normally colorful Hang-It-All. As it will only be in production for a few months (ending early 2011), I’d suggest getting one sooner rather than later.

Update: DWR sold out, but I found one other retailer that has a few (it seems): Stardust.com

These became unavailable last year, much to my disappointment and several of yours, if my memory serves correct. Happily, they are available again through A+R.

Love how the bases of these bookends (or bookstops) are concave to allow for desktop storage (paperclips, rubberbands etc.)…

Pigeon Roost into Mini Loft

Ran across this renovation project over on Dwell: it’s a the 360-square-foot carriage house that was transformed from a pigeon roost into a mini loft. Especially notable is the postage stamp sized kitchen and bathroom.

Ercol Loveseat

I’ve had my eye on this loveseat for a while now, and though I’ve no room for it, I keep imagining just where it would go. Especially after seeing it with what looks to be the Original Windsor Dining Table (shown below), there seems no better choice for a smaller eating area.

Evolute Suspension Lamp

A seemingly simple balloon-like shape is made interesting by the use of materials. I’m sure the diffused light would give the room a warm glow, plus, the maple veneer would be nice as an added textural element. Two sizes available; some assembly required.

MexICON Platters

Carlos Slim? Verónica Castro? Maybe you’re familiar with these names, maybe not. But these MexICON Platters from the design studio DFC sure steal my heart quicker than any Fornasetti piece I’ve seen. Originally DFC founders Tony Moxham and Mauricio Paniagua conceived this series as homage to Fornasetti, and used famous Mexican pop icons in place of Fornasetti’s ubiquitous choice. The group includes faces of poet Pita Amor, telecommunications magnate Carlos Slim, eyepatch-wearing ’70s soap star Catalina Creeland, architect Luis Barragán, and actors Andrés García and Verónica Castro. I’d say any one of them is a safe bet for jazzing up your tabletop.

Off-Axis Watch

A closer look at this watch will show that the viewing axis has been rotated 30 degrees, allowing you to read the time without bending your arm or wrist. I bet it would take a little while to get used to it, as we’re all so accustomed to the habit…

Club Red Rug

This 4’x6′ rug might be just the ticket for a small space needing a little bit of oomph. I like that it’s based on an actual poster and that it’s under $250.

Doggy Bank

For those of you more discerning modern art aficionados, you’ll clue in pretty quick that this is not a Balloon Dog from Jeff Koons. Maybe the $79 price tag was a hint. Nevertheless, for anyone that appreciates the look of the original, this bank is an affordable alternative.
