A few quick notes

Thanks to those of you that have written in about the annoying auto play ads that have attacked you upon visiting the site in the past couple of days. We’ve notified the network we think responsible to discontinue such ads, as it has never been our intention to allow them.

All this to say, if any of you ever experience an annoying and/or horrible ad, please please please save a screen shot and email us so we can stop it. Again, thanks for letting us know.

That business aside, we’re terribly close to showing you all the new and improved website, which we hope you’ll like as much as we do. Fingers crossed that it’ll be up and running within the next week or two (!).

Zikmu Wireless Speaker System

Hmm. This slim profile speaker system is a result of Philippe Starck and Parrot, a Paris-based wireless device company. Able to stream music directly from any Blutooth enabled device (phone, computer, etc), the Zikmu transmits 360 degrees of immersive sound while allowing for portability not usually found within the home sound systems market. A docking station is built into one of the two columns, giving you an option to charge your device while listening to your music.

13 Mater Gymnasium Pine Edition

The graphic colors and lines of the gym court sure make an eye catching pattern on this eco-friendly cabinet. Originally this series was created in 2008 using old floor boards (see Old Floor Board Edition, which is perhaps my favorite) and more recently Mater has added the Pine and Oak Editions. Plus, you might be happy to hear that Mater donates a percentage of profits to promoting sports in developing countries.

Soren Rose for Mater
Renewable pine and controlled Danish oak with water-based fixatives and varnishes.

Cachao Grellow Chair

Pretty decent price for some extra modern seating, don’t you think? The ‘grellow’ might be a nice color pop for your dining area, especially if it’s feeling a bit drab and in need of some summer refreshment.

Steel frame and seat with a green-yellow powdercoat finish.

Elevate 6-Piece Utensil Set

We featured these Elevate Kitchen Tools earlier this year, but they’re now available stateside and in a multi-color kit, so they might be a tad more tempting. If you’re not familiar with the Elevate collection, the weighted handles keep utensil heads from touching worktop surfaces.

Society6 Prints

As some of you might be aware, there’s a growing list of websites from which to peruse and buy affordable art. I just found Society6 the other day, and happily most prints start around the $25-$36 mark. A few (or rather, several) favorites are shown below.

Shown above, left to right:
Hello Mr. VanWalsum by Pat Perry, 17″ X 23″ ($35.00)

Key Ring Paperclip

This seems like a smart alternative to normal key rings, if only for the reason of making the addition/subtraction of a key that much easier. The paperclip shape is a bonus, of course.

Cast alloy.

Boxal

It’s a cardboard picnic box. Might be just the thing for all your picnic outings this summer, as it has enough room to store your food plus the fully compostable utensils, plates, cups, containers and napkins that come with whichever Boxal you choose.

There’s also some suggestions of items and containers that go inside a Boxal, which is especially handy if you’re the type that appreciates a perfect fit; see their blog post Pack that in your Boxal & eat it.

Available designs: Urban Picnic, Today’s Date, and Office Escape (shown below)

Magis Spun Chair

This chair made the rounds after its launch at Salone del Mobile, but it wasn’t until I saw the production pics and the video did I fully appreciate the design. Thomas Heatherwick (of recent UK Pavillion fame) was inspired by the craft of large scale metal spinning used to make Timpani drums. Using a rotationally symmetrical form, the Spun Chair appears to be more sculpture when upright, yet when lent on its side, it becomes a comfortable and playful chair. This version of the chair by Magis (shown above) is made of plastic rather than metal, which means it can be used outdoors and eventually recycled.

Designed by Thomas Heatherwick and manufactured by Magis.

PANTONE® Flight Stools

These certainly aren’t new, but they are definitely worth a nod. Pantone has licensed a ton of great products in the past few years, making all of us color nuts quite happy to pick our favorite shade of mug, bag, etc. This stool would be perfect for a little jolt of color in seating options.
