Matt Lamp

Four feet of soft, knitted cord means you can play around with how this lamp is displayed. Hanging a few over a dining table (maybe twisted/knotted together) could be interesting, or the loop idea on a wall over the bed would be a nice soft texture to a sleeping area. A silicone-covered energy saving bulb is included, so you won’t have to worry about safety.

Distortion Candlestick

While this has quite a bit of wait time, it’s an excellent price for a great little conversation piece. Rapid prototyping is really enabling designers to make some interesting stuff, as is the case with this candlestick. A traditional candlestick form is warped through 3D rendering, then rapid prototyped and cast.

Available for pre-order.

Plopp Stainless Steel Stool

Have you seen the Mini Plopp Inflated Stool? The ones made of industrially inflated sheet metal? As cool as the colors are, hold on to your hat and take a look at the polished steel version. Pretty amazing, isn’t it? And what artist’s work does it remind you of? Answer below.

Chroma Lab Clocks

It’s been a while since I’ve checked out Supermarket, so I forgot how easy it is to get lost paging through all the recent additions. One collection that stood out was Chroma Lab, mainly for their simple-yet-colorful clocks. Funny enough, these aren’t the colorful ones, but they’re the ones I liked the most. Each clock is built by hand and either hand painted or screen printed.

Faux Bois Pretend Clock, $79.00
Digital Clock, $59.00

Science Project Pillows

I remember seeing these on Cool Hunting a while ago, and now that they’ve popped up at another retailer it’s worth showcasing them here. Made entirely of eco-friendly materials, the appliqued pillows feature subjects of Geology (a volcano), Botany (a flower), and Anatomy (a person). Black wool felt and bright sensuede applique’s (made of recycled polyester) make for an altogether strong graphic design.

Designer: Heather Lins
Material – Pillow 100% wool felt, Insert down feather
17″ x 17″

Also available from Heather Lins’ Supermarket store ($220).

Bisonte Stacking Stool

Obviously the name denotes the design, but what strikes me most about this stool is not only the shape of one on its own, but the shape when stacked several high. It almost looks like an extremely robust coat hanger or totem-like sculpture.

Designer: Michele De Lucchi
Materials: birch plywood
10.25″ x 15.75″ x 19.5″h

Purchase Information:

Price: $850.00

Ligne Roset: Gilt Sale

Well, take a look at this piece of happy news. Ligne Roset is on Gilt Groupe, which means some of you can snap up some great little pieces on sale. Excuse the hastily put together above image, as I wanted to get this up fast so you guys have a good chance of getting something before it’s gone. And, as I always say, Gilt Groupe is an invite-only site, so you have to sign up to get access to the sales, fyi. (The few pieces shown above are my favorites.)

Shown above:
Louis 5D Wall Sconce $295.00 $190.00
Dressy Aubusson Dining Chair $830.00 $498.00
Elsa Armless Chairs (set/2) $1,690.00 $1,183.00
Tazia Ottoman, $700.00 $455.00
Kendo Round Table, $400.00 $240.00

Mokusei Lamp

Made from 20 pieces of triangle shaped veneer, this light makes for a pretty picture. You assemble the light like a puzzle, either as shown above or as two separate more oval shaped lights. One drawback is that it doesn’t come with a wire unit (it’s flat-packed after all) but that’s easy enough to pick up at a hardware store (or Ikea?). Also, if you’re the curious type, ‘Mokusei’ means wooden-made and also Jupiter in Japanese.

Cherry veneer with back lamination

App Magnets

These were kind of too cute (for lack of a better word) not to post.

Sean Dix Forte Coffee Table

Not a bad price for a coffee table, seeing as it’s comfortably under the $500 mark. The angled legs makes for an interesting detail, yet it’s robust and sturdy looking, as it should be since the legs are cut from solid American walnut (or oak). A veneered hardwood top finishes it off with a nice ‘organic geometry’.

American Walnut ($379) or American Oak ($349).
Also available in a round-topped version for $499.

35.5 x 35.5 x 17 (W x D x H”)

Purchase Information:

Price: $349.00
Available from: nood

Bean Coin Pouch

This reminds me of the Leaf Tie a little. Could be very handy if you’re always needing quarters for parking meters (or vending machines).

Silicon rubber.
4.25 x 2.5 x 0.25″

Purchase Information:

Price: $6.00
Available from: nood

Ultra Flat Clock, Black and White

If the Ultra Flat Wall Clock was way too colorful for your taste, then you’ll be happy to see this black and white version. Just like the color version, it’s half an inch thick, which makes it one of the thinnest clocks in the world.

Designed by Thomas Buchheim.
