Inspiration- Stairs with Glass Banister

Hmm… concrete plus glass usually means cold (not brrr-cold, more like cold-museum-looking), but this stairway/entrance (garage?) has been in my inspiration files for a while. Knocking down a regular banister in favor of a glass one *wall* like this would sure let a lot more light bounce around, not to mention pare down any visual clutter. Of course, the artwork, bike, and chair helps this space to feel lived in… it might veer towards the uncomfortable-museum-look without them.

minui HandySitt Chair

Remember the minui HandySitt portable seat that we posted a while ago? Now it’s got a companion chair. When combined with the seat, it makes a freestanding high chair. Without the portable seat, it’s a stepstool and/or a chair for older kids. Nice.

Little Paper Planes

It’s never too late to start an art collection, and don’t you dare say you can’t afford it because there’s several sites out there that will prove you wrong. Maybe you can’t afford big-city-major-gallery-brand-name art (goodness knows most of us can’t), but there’s quite a bit of ‘budget’ art that runs around $20-$100 for smaller prints. I personally got lost on Little Paper Planes* the other day, and ended up buying three small prints for under $100, which is not bad at all. So, if you’ve got some blank walls begging for a lil’ bit of art, check it out.

shown above, left to right:

Sweet Like Harmony Print by Kelly Allen, $65.00
Christie Print by Alika Cooper, $50.00
Helen Ireland Print by Erin Gilkes, $20.00
Julia Rothman Letterpress Print by Julia Rothman, $25.00
Universe Kite Print by Brandi Strickland, $30.00

*and no, they didn’t pay us to plug their site, just in case you were feeling skeptical.

Also, if you haven’t see it yet, the video is worth a look.

Yellow!

Most of us aren’t really fans of yellow, are we? I know I’m not, but this image of bright yellow doors has been in my inspiration files as a reminder of the possibility of maybe painting something yellow. Can you imagine? It would be a jolt, wouldn’t it… like somebody hitting you over the head with a baseball bat (a nice, sunshiny one) every time you walk past it.

Didn’t look long enough to see if I could find other pics of the same interior, so if you find some, please let me know.

Reader Queries:

Hello. There’s a few reader’s questions that I haven’t been able to find/answer. Can any of you help?

First, Claire’s search for wallpaper:

“It was by a female designer possibly Scandinavian, her designs were all multicoloured, 4 different designs including repeat patterns of snow capped mountains with goats, rabbits and other silouhette images. Another one featured, red foxes. Also one with a large crab print allover. I have spent hours trying to find it again online but just can’t locate them. Any suggestions or ideas of who the designer is would be most welcome as it is starting to drive me mad!! Many thanks, Claire”

Second, Gavin’s search for folding barstools that aren’t ugly:

“Have you come across any counter height folding bar stools in your search for great contemporary. I thought finding one would be a no brainer but it seems to not exist??”

If you have suggestions and/or ideas, please-oh-please comment. It’ll be your good deed for the day.

Eastvold Classic Media Cabinet

Do you remember Kris’s post on Eastvold Custom Cabinets? They do furniture as well, and, as you can see above, it’s worth a look or two. This media cabinet has wire passages through all the shelves and partitions (and back/bottom), allowing for cable organization (very important). Plus, it’s made from solid walnut, so it’ll look a whole lot better than any assemble-it-yourself media stand.

60″ wide x 20″ tall x 20″ deep.
