Bird’s Foot Bookend

These Nambu Cast Iron bookends initially confused the heck out of me when trying to figure out who they were designed by… Here they say Tadahiro Baba, here it says Tetsutaro Nakabayashi, with the other cast iron items being T. Baba, here Tetsutaro Nakabayashi, while at DUDYE it definitely shows the bookends in the interview with Tetsutaro Nakabayashi (with a chrome version shown, very nice)… So, that’s what I’m going with. I’m guessing there’s an obvious connection that I just can’t find at the moment.

Pong iPhone case

So, if you read all the gadget blogs, you’ll have read about the Pong iPhone case. Apparently it deflects harmful radiation away from your head, which sounds really great, but there are complaints of the price and a little bit of skepticism on how well it works. I’ll not go into all the details, but if you’re interested you can read for yourself how it works (see below for the write-ups).

The first scientifically-proven radiation reduction case. Let the embedded Pong module protect your head while the form-fitting case protects your iPhone 3G and 3GS from the rigors of heavy duty use. Pong’s special silicone formula guarantees that your phone maintains full signal strength and battery life.

Sabine Iron Glass Desk Lamp

Simple, but the gold finish dresses it up quite a bit, no? It’s nice that it’s just the base and the glass- no shade to take up space. There’s also a floor lamp version but it’s price is a bit steeper at $880.

Dimensions: H:26” x W:12” x D:11.5”

or, as a ‘weekly special’: $230 here. (not sure how long that’ll last)

Meadow Plate by Ella Doran Design Ltd

I think the blustery cold has me looking for spring (any day now we’ll turn the corner), so of course this melamine plate caught my eye. It’s refreshing to see some greenery, even if it is on a plate.

Diameter: 26 cm (10″)
Material: melamine

Decanting Mirror

If this had title nor description, would you know what it was? I would guess an art-ish object of some sort. This polished piece of steel is used to aerate wine in to a decanter. It’s almost always a delight when an object has beauty apart from its function.

FOOD Print by beauchamping

If you look closely at the top print, you can see the animals’ shadows make a sentence. I’d seen the ‘STATES UNITED’ print (bottom right) before somewhere, but looking at the whole collection of prints makes me appreciate each individual one even more.

*All prints are created using a xylene transfer process*. It’s like a screenprint, but without the screen, and the artwork is hand-transferred inch by inch over a long hour. Each xylene print is an original, slightly different from the last, all signed and numbered.

FOOD (2009), 30 × 22 inches, $75.00

Triumph Lounge Chair

I usually complain about furniture being too expensive, but in this case I’m surprised the price is so low. For you budget-plus-design-conscious folks, you might consider this snazzy red chair.

-Padded foam seat

Moonbird Table Light

Swoon. Designboom has pictures of this lamp when it first hit the scene in ’09 (Milan Design Week) along with the designer’s quote, ‘I designed this lamp with the image of a bird perched silently under the moonlight in mind.’ A lovely thought, isn’t it?

Metal Heart with Spheric Sound

This metal heart ’emits a soft spheric’ sound so that when you’re crying yourself to sleep on Valentine’s Day you’ll have some comfort. Just kidding. Forgo those lame boring valentine’s gifts (roses, candy, blah) for this little gift, because it’ll last a heck of a lot longer and it looks waaay better than any red/pink-plastic/cellophane-stuffed-bear/basket type of thing. Pair it with a sentimental note and you’re done*.

If you’re still looking for a gift, by the way, you can always take a gander at our Gift Guide. It’s chockfull of easy-to-browse thumbnails of almost everything that we’ve ever posted that could be a decent gift.

Polished Aluminum.
4″ diameter

*unless your significant other is a gold-digger, in which case be prepared to duck and/or dodge when he or she throws it at you.

Oktavilla / Elding Oscarson

Magazines as wall material! Such a great idea. Check out the rest of the project via ArchDaily.

“Besides having a literal relevance to the client’s business, the wall made of stacked bundles of magazines is not only a natural conversation piece in its mere irrationality, but also works as an acoustical absorbent.” -ArchDaily

Wallfa by Jordi Canudas

Remember this from way back in 2007? I sure do because it sort of knocked my socks off. As is often the case, there wasn’t much in the way of price or convenient online purchasing options because it was more of a prototype idea, so I refrained from posting it. But just today I ran across an actual retail link, so, here we are. If you’ve got the cash it’s a pretty fabulous seating option for a larger space (i.e. office area or loft).

Amboyna Wood Cheese Board

This cheese board might just look like any ol’ tree slice, but it’s actually from amboyna trees in Thailand. Considering that the roots and branches from the tree would otherwise be burned, it’s nice to know that it can grace our tabletop instead.

-Hand sanded and finished with palm oil.
-Each one is unique and sizes vary slightly.
-Food-safe.

Material: Amboyna wood
Dimensions: 1″ h x 9″-11″ diameter
