Orchard Ladder

Oh, why do things torture me so? This is an example of an item that in no way I have to have or even slightly need, but I want sort of badly. I actually saw these in New York at the store and had to suppress the urge to caress them. It’s that balance of beauty and craftsmanship, together making an item where, sure, it could be useful, but I certainly wouldn’t want to cover it with towels or clothes*. I would simply admire. And, yes, it’s an awful lot of money for a ladder that you wouldn’t actually use as a ladder, but that’s really not the point (or maybe it’s exactly the point).

19th-century orchard ladders are the inspiration for this series of decorative accents. Turned, hard maple components fit snugly together. Orchard ladders can accommodate throws, towels, clothes, or simply stand alone. Available in three sizes.

Reee Chair

This chair is made in the UK from recycled Sony Playstation consoles. While it’s a little alarming that there’s enough Playstations to recycle into furniture, it’s nice to know that they become chairs instead of ending up in landfills. (Just so you know, the 2.4 kg of plastic saved/recycled is about 5.29 lbs.)

Irezumi Ink Dish Tattoo Design

Whether you’re a fan of tattoos or not, this ink-inspired dinnerware is lovely interpretation of traditional porcelain table settings. I’d like to think that this would satisfy the ‘matchy-matchy’ crowd (i.e. people who like to have everything match) but still give a little bit of edgy/alternative style to the table.

Paul Timman is one of the leading tattoo artists in the world and recognized as a specialist in tribal and traditional Japanese designs. Here he inks is world renowned designs on porcelain inspired by classical Japanese tattoos.

Manimani Clock

As you might be able to guess, this clock’s shape was inspired from dropping a bunch of antique clock hands on to the floor and tracing the outline.

welcome/goodbye doormat

This doormat reads ‘welcome’ or ‘goodbye’ depending on if your are entering or exiting your dwelling. It reminds me a little of the Come In/ Go Away Doormat except it’s a bit more polite and obviously less frilly in script.

100% recycled rubber tires

Cottam Hargrave: Ranch House

I remember seeing this on one of Fine Living’s Dwell series (do you remember them?) a few years ago. Located in central Texas, this ranch is miles and miles away from its nearest neighbor which allows for huge glass walls and uninterrupted views of the landscape (I think I remember the owner saying he sometimes wakes up to a cow looking into his bedroom wall/window). The large overhang roof provides much needed shade during hot summers, and as I remember, there’s a central brick structure that anchors the home and retains temperature*.

FS bowl (Futuresystems)

I know what you’re thinking, such intricacy in a nylon bowl must mean Selective laser sintering, right? I thought so too. And might it reside in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, did you say? Why, yes, it does. That’s why it costs just under $10 G’s. (A bargain, really, isn’t it?)

HutJ Camila Rocker by Matthew Kroeker

I’ve meant to post this ages ago. Not only does this armless rocker look incredibly relaxing, it’s also lovely to look at. Plus, with space big enough to curl up on, it’s a natural choice for a living room lounge chair.

Furoshiki Shiki Card Holder

I’ve actually owned one of these for about two-ish years now (can’t believe I neglected to post it), and have been pretty pleased with the function & use. The bright vinyl is cheerful and it’s been nice having something so durable to carry around business and credit cards. So, there you go.

The “furoshiki shiki” (furoshiki style) is made out of one sheet of semitransparent vinyl “film.” This sheet is turned into a card holder by folding it and making use of the adhesive qualities of the material. It is a practical material, easy to clean, and when washed with soap the material regains its adhesive qualities.

Available in Pink, Green, and Yellow.

iHome iP41 Rotating Alarm Clock for iPhone or iPod

Yep, this alarm clock will wake you up or put you to sleep with your own tunes plus charge your gadget all the while. You can also watch videos in landscape mode on your iPhone or iPod simply by rotating the iHome clock (though I don’t really know how a video would help you wake up). All this would mean nothing, of course, if it wasn’t nice to look at.

The Modo Chandelier by Jason Miller

So, yes, this chandelier is (ahem) expensive, but get this, it can be configured in all sorts of ways due to its spoke and hub system. What is a spoke and hub system? Well, according to some dictionaries it’s all about air transportation, but I’m sure you can probably figure it out by looking at the picture. Also, there’s a 4 Sided ($6,000.00) and 3 Sided ($4,000.00) version if that’s a bit easier to swallow.

All the parts are custom CNC milled from solid aluminum.
Materials: Black anodized aluminum, glass (glass is available in smoke and clear)
Dimensions: 37″ H x 66″ Dia.

Price: $8,400.00

Air Lines Poster

This art project shows every scheduled flight on any given day with fine lines from the point of origin to the destination. Thousands of lines form dark knots in the busier areas with lighter lines showing less frequented locations, all which define the continents rather than the land/sea relationship. I tend to like the resulting ghost-like net of lines. I might just buy one.

White or Black available.
(The white on black poster is limited to a print run of only 100.)
Each poster is printed on state of the art offset printers on high quality heavyweight fine-art paper. Securely packed and shipped in cardboard mailing tube.
