Stuffed Stools and Cabinet

Made from steel plate, these stools and cabinet have a semi-cartoonish feel about them and in this particular case, that’s a very good thing.

Gentleman’s chamber 1953 is a fusion of nature and interior, traditional elements from a gentleman’s chamber are brought back to their essence and are reinterpreted from the point of view of the animals. This stool is made out of tree trunks or that how it appears to be. On a closer inspection you will notice they are actually made out of steel plate.

Modern-Twist Placemats

Modern-Twist has a great collection of modern placemats which you should definitely take a gander at if you haven’t already. My favorite, oddly enough, is the kid’s versions which are able to be drawn upon with washable markers. Brilliant idea.

tham and videgard hansson arkitekts

Whoa, check out this apartment with its crazy color-transitional parquet floors. Not sure how much I’d like to live there with that much color all the time, but it’s certainly nice to look at. Visit designboom for bigger/more pics.

they used patterns and colour to order space in previous projects that the occupants had seen.
the overlapping colours transform the layout of the apartment and add a new structure of spaces
linked to each other across the original plan. the parquet floor also function as a uniting system
that offer design possibilities. once they had set up colours in different shades, they developed
each room in relation to the others, every piece of parquet was defined to fit into the right postion,
there was no random factor in the construction process. -designboom

Julep Rocker

A steal of a deal at $149.00, this rocker is surprisingly super sleek.

No, we’re not off our rockers—this price is for real. Minimalist grey-on-grey rocks back in a swoop of grey polymesh over grey rust-resistant powdercoated aluminum frame. -CB2

Ting’s Leather Belt Floor Tiles

I remember posting Ting Studio’s Belt Floor Mat back in June of 2007 and it blew me away. But this, this is really spectacular. You can have a whole floor of recycled leather belts. There’s not a whole lot of info on the site (that I could find), but Met Home’s May issue (pg 74) lists the floor tiles at $75 per square foot. It’s expensive, but man, it might just be worth it.

Apartment Therapy has a little more info about the floor tiles too if you’re interested.

$75/sq ft., Buy it here.

(Also, I wonder how easy it would be to replicate this yourself? You’d have to do some hunting at resale shops for the belts, but as far as adhesive I just don’t know…)

OTO100 Storage System

I think I love this.

PIL BREDAHL ON THE DESIGN: “The storage system is made for the modern nomad and inspired by the fact that we move more often in our lives than ever before. It can be separated and assembled very easily. It has a clear sculptural value and you can put it in the formations you like best. When it’s not used for books, magazines, clothes, etc., It can lay on the floor, each ring inside the bigger ring creating a beautiful pattern.”

Cedar Sake Vessel

I don’t make a practice of drinking sake, but this vessel by designer Shunji Kurimori might convince me to start.

Kurimori’s Cedar Sake Bottle is made using old cedar trees with a striking narrow grain, resulting in a bentwood low-conduction vessel that keeps cold sake cool, hot sake warm. Kurimori is a Master of Traditional Craft, recognized by the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. Pair the Cedar Sake Bottle with the Cedar Sake Cups (sold separately) to practice a third Japanese tradition: sharing sake and conversation with friends.

A Candle Stick Vase

A novel idea…and well realized too I think.

“A Candle Stick Vase” combines the beauty and function of a candle stick and a vase into one. Its nostalgic look and details that resembles an old European candle stand will magically create a romantic candle light feel by placing a flower in it. Blow the petals away as if it was a real light! The tray can also be used to place your keys and coins. -mollaspace

Antique Sari Quilts

No doubt there will many differing opinions on these two items, but hopefully a few of you can appreciate the color and pattern of these antique sari throws.

Traditional quilts with an exotic edge add glimpses of another culture to your surroundings. Each is an original, handmade in India by artisans who work lengths and patches of vintage cotton saris into stunning throws for sofa, chair or bed. Hand quilted and reversible; colors and patterns will vary. Dry clean. Imported. Each is one-of-kind and subject to prior sale.

#71 and #23 shown above.

Liquid Lamp

Personally, I think I’d prefer a different color than red, but other than than, these lamps are pretty intriguing. They certainly are different, and I like how they’re on a smaller scale, so they can be tucked into smaller work spaces perhaps.

These stark white lamps are made from sturdy iron plate, but their fluid shape reminds us more of that glass cup full of paint that we knocked over (if it had been suspended in motion).

Designer: Kouichi Okamoto
Available in wall or table versions. Red or white interior.

Hands and Classic Hands Clocks

Floating hands tell the time in either classic or modern styling. Be sure to take note of the dimensions though, they’re pretty big.

The ultimate in simplicity, this clock has been stripped down to its most essential element- its hands. Striking, modern, minimal and functional.

Shirara’s Paper Blocks & Tiara

Making things out of paper is kind of a hobby of mine, so I can’t help but post these two items from the paper-crazy Japanese design collective, Shirara. The paper block kit has ‘great gift’ written all over it (and yes, the tiara is a little frou-frou-ish, but that’s what a tiara is, so deal with it).

Paper Blocks, $44.00,
Buy it here.

This 23-piece set stirs the imagination both artistically and spatially. The pristine paper blocks are a blank slate for children of all ages to illustrate with their wildest dreams. The blocks are in varying shapes to accommodate all kinds of structures. Comes flat-packed. No glue necessary: It’s self-adhesive to allow for easy assembling. Designed by Mai Miura

One Day Princess Tiara, $28.00,
Buy it here.

This tiara is among the more baroque of [Shirara’s] efforts, kissed in gold and strung with a very long white satin ribbon. We love the modernity that comes from translating something so precious in idea as a tiara into something so fleeting as paper. Flatpacked and measuring about 6-3/4″ tall and about 16-1/4″ before interlocking the tabs–making it a perfectly princely coronet for all ages. by Tomitama
