Danielle over at the style files has a great design guide on Amsterdam. She has put together lists of where to stay, eat, shop, and other things to see while you’re there. I love it when people take the time to do nice stuff like that.

Two modern-ish items on sale…(I might say once more I firmly believe you get what you pay for, though I’m sure there are some of you that are more concerned with the price tag than materials).
Andrew Relax Chair, $189.00 $149.99, Buy it here.
Few chairs cut a slim, low-angled profile while having the kind of wide seat support that lets you settle in. Fewer still manage to be slender and inviting without hogging space. The European-style Andrew Relaxer does it all with a lineup of unbeatable qualities, from gently curving lines, rich chocolate
bi-cast leather to an elegant profile suitable for any room.
24″W x 23.5″D x 28.25″H (15.5″H Seat)
Twig Coffee Table, $499.00 $349.99,

I like how this looks kind of upside down and how the historic bulbs play off the otherwise modern styling.

A decidedly modern accommodation for your feathered neighbors:
Chances are slim that the birds in your back yard are reading Dwell magazine, but nonetheless they will be dwelling-well in this mini-modern home of their own. The Roost bird house is a perfect place for bringing up a family of chirpers. Sorry, no human sized versions (yet).

I have to admit, even though this is way beyond my budget for outdoor lighting (not to mention just outdoor anything), it is such an elegant solution. You can position the head in three different ways to reflect light along a wall, angled, or down onto a path.
Simple and architectural, the System 45 Lighting Collection (2007) offers three different fabrications in three sizes and an adjustable head that can be directed three different ways. Position the System 45 to send light horizontally, at an angle or down toward the ground, and the head’s direction can be changed even after installation. The included 24W fluorescent bulb provides long-lasting bright, but diffused light for a walkway, patio or poolside. The teak veneer can be treated with the included teak oil to maintain its original luster or, if left untreated, will patina to a silvery color over time. Professional installation is recommended for this hardwired light. Made in Italy.

How handy are these?
When collapsed, our Folding Crate is compact enough to hide away in the car trunk or between the washer and dryer. But when expanded, its large capacity defies all logic! Made of heavy-duty plastic and reinforced with metal pins for greater strength, multiples can be stacked securely atop one another and are perfect for carting groceries or sports equipment. It’s durable enough for heavy items, but light enough for kids to carry their toys.

Remodelista did a post recently on blackboard walls; some of the pictures have me wishing I had more wall space to play around with.
Also, they give a great link to Abacus Construction Index which provides a great overview of different chalkboard paint suppliers.

$50 for the white stackable Ronde Armchair. Not bad…
The Ronde Armchair, designed by Aldo Ciabatti, is a familiar sight in cafes throughout Europe. Its rounded spoon shape is outlined in tubular steel, and two simple arches swoop gracefully to serve as both legs and armrests. Neatly welded onto the frame is flattened sheet-metal mesh, a semitransparent screen that gives the chair its light look. The highly functional, affordable chair stacks up 10 high and is easily cleaned. Made in Italy.
