London Interiors/Interieurs De Londres: Interieurs Del Londres

Though this was published way back in 2000, it’s still pretty interesting to browse through these different homes in London. I check out a lot of interior design books from the library (I know, I’m a nerd) and I find it so enthralling to see what ideas and interiors still seem current despite the publication date.

“London, staid London, becomes probably the most provocative, diametrically opposed city in the world when its living interiors are exposed. Edwards shows off her skills in this portfolio of 42 mainly urban spaces. Most owners are in the arts (or a related industry), in love with color, and experts at eclecticism. There’s a male trio who believe in crowning all of their stuffed animals. An admitted spokesperson of the underworld surrounds himself (and his family) with suitably garish and kitsch furnishings. And the book pays tribute to Margaret Tyler, owner of the largest stash of royal memorabilia in the nation (if not anywhere in the world). Exuberant color photographs and minimalist text make for a repeatable and enjoyable viewing experience.” Barbara Jacobs from Booklist

Honey Lamps by Donegani and Lauda

This collection of Honey Lamps is on sale (almost half off).

‘This is a system of light elements built around diffused light, designed on a modular transparent structure, of theoretically unlimited extension, like “Brancusi’s Endless” column. The texture of the triangular components, in a honey comb structure and micro-prismatic, directs the distribution of the light flow through the interior of the structure. The system is composed of three basic components, assembled together in a clip-on process (the elements are a triangle as diffuser, a square as frame and a crown as the cover) as well as the rod iron legs for the base. The assembly operations, which are extremely simple and require no additional tools, are left to the user. By using the components available in the system, it is possible within the required dimensions, to choose from several lamp alternatives.’

Nelson Coconut Chair

This classic deserves consideration if you’re in the market for an iconic (and comfortable) lounge chair.

“Intended to combine comfort with freedom of movement, the shape of the Coconut Chair’s white molded shell was inspired by the shape of Eero Saarinen’s Kresge Auditorium at MIT. Echoing both the auditorium’s triangular shape, as well as a portion of coconut shell, the Chair’s unique form invites a number of different seating positions. The shell sits upon a chromed-steel base with three thin legs. A single-piece foam cushion, upholstered in high-quality semi-aniline leather, is molded into the shell.”
