Domestic Trophies

Here’s a fuzzy art piece that’s quite a different take on the traditional hunting trophy. Rachel Denny hand makes these trophies in her studio, so each will be unique in color and pattern. There’s also some angora rabbits she’s working on that are worth taking a look at.

Domestic Trophy (deer mount) series are between $500 and $600 depending on size and intricacy.

Translucent Bird Lamp

This lamp is really kind of strange: it’s pretty modern, yet the bird (to me) doesn’t quite make sense. To make things even more confusing, I think I like it more because of that.

“Light and airy enough to fit into traditional, classic style, yet this clear lamp reminds us of Philippe Starck’s modern Louis Ghost Chair. We love how the clear glass not only reveals its own light but also reflects its luminous surroundings.”

Travel Thread Kit

Never underestimate the importance of a needle and tread whilst traveling. This would fit easily anywhere within your luggage or in a pocket (though if you put it in a coat or pants pocket, be careful, of course).

“A travel sewing kit, much better alternative to the small spool-in-a-box version. Cotton thread to be used on all fabrics, 8 strands per color, 21 colors in total. Pull a thread out piece by piece.”

Reuber-Henning Rugs: Sterntaler and Fairy Tale

Absolutely wonderful. I love how the imagery is against such a sparse background. You folks flush with enough cash to get something of this sort are very, very lucky.

‘Franziska Henning calls her carpets “Poetic Images” – images that “have been inspired by a wide variety of regions, periods and moods.” The designs of our first collection are partly based on German 19th-century silhouette cutouts and traditional Japanese woodcuts…Our rugs are knotted from fine Himalaya wool and chinese silk following ancient Tibetan handicraft traditions. We want to create rugs that belong to people, beautiful rugs in the very best quality, which will keep creating a special atmosphere a whole life long, and whose beauty and character only grow stronger with the passing years.’

Atmos Rocker

There aren’t necessarily a wide variety of modern rocking chairs out there, not to mention the green sort, so that’s why this one stands out quite a bit. I like the angle of the seat/back/neck- it reminds me of the
Omni Chair by Marten Claesson & Eero Koivisto.

“Atmos Chairs take their design cue from the simple utilitarian beauty of the Shaker tradition. The “ears” that jut out from the top of the chairs add a distinctive feature to these chairs. Atmos Chairs are a comfortable way to sit while satisfying our need to conserve resources. Their construction yields 8-10 times more usable wood from a log than solid lumber. Unless otherwise specified, the webbing is sourced from surplus stocks of automotive seat belts. The wood is European beech sustainably sourced from FSC certified forests; adhesives and finishes are water based. This product qualifies for LEED points. Suitable for all contract and residential applications.”

Mellow Sectional

I like the looks of this modern sectional, and the fact that all different sorts of configurations are possible is a definite plus.

“A democratic lounge for habitats small in square footage or lucky in large space. Three armless chairs– left back, right back, full back– and ottoman modulate in all sorts and all sizes of comfy sofa configurations. You can even put chairs back to back lobby style. Get creative with two colors/fabrics: super mellow velvet in warm concrete (shown here) or slubby, linen-y weave in tones of coffee.”

Sherwood Brass, Black Walnut and Jetson End Tables

Just in case you’ve been trying to find an end table, here’s three that have some personality. (And, yes, the Jetson one is reminiscent of the
Saarinen Side, but the top is mirrored and the proportions are slightly different, so it’s forgivable.)

A little pricey, but it’s simplicity at its best.

Barnaby Barford ‘World Map’ rug

I love this rug by Mr. Barford. Think of the possibilities: you could test guests on what country is where or you could use it to dream of future travels (or just your personal pursuit of domination) worldwide.

“Have the world at your feet with this beautiful rug. 100% wool rug, hand-tufted in India.

Available in warm grey with cream or cream with red.”

Leather Zip Pouches

One of these days I’ll stop posting leather travel accessories that are more of a luxury than a necessity, but for now, they are catching my attention pretty much everywhere I go. I really like the black; too bad it has more of a feminine zipper pull or it could appeal to the masculine sort as well.

“A useful pouch goes from makeup bag to clutch. Italian lambskin hand-crafted into three versatile sizes. Perfect for traveling. Choose pewter, copper, black or gold.”

Bears by Kent Rogowski

Some might say this book leans towards the slightly disturbed category, but I think it’s amusing and insightful. Completely worth taking a look at…

“Bears, the first book by Kent Rogowski, is a series of portraits of the most unusual sort: ordinary teddy bears that have been turned inside out and restuffed. Each animal’s appearance is determined by the necessities of the manufacturing process. Simple patterns and devices never meant to be seen are now prominent physical characteristics, giving each one a distinctly quirky personality: their fasteners become eyes, their seams become scars, and their stuffing creeps out in the most unexpected places. Together these images form a topology of strange yet oddly familiar creatures. They are at once hideous yet cuddly, disturbing yet endearing, absurd yet adorable, while offering a metaphor for us all to consider. These bears, which have lived and loved and lost as much as their owners, have suffered and endured through it all. It is by virtue of revealing their inner core might we better understand our own.”

Guitar & Amp Pillowcases

Yes, these could probably be found in a college dorm room, but I kind of like them anyways.

“Rock yourself to sleep with matching guitar-and-amp cases, each designed with tour T-shirt-style screenprinted graphics. Standard size covers are 210 thread count; 73% cotton/27% nylon. Machine wash.”
