C3 Cabin

This little cabin seems anything but small. Sleeping lofts are, of course, necessary in maintaining a small footprint, and this particular plan utilizes the space wonderfully. If you’re interested, the plans are available to purchase.

“The C3 cabin was born out of a desire to reduce and to simplify. Whereas the footprint may be small this cabin lives large. With only 352 square feet on the main floor and 128 square feet in the loft, it encompasses all the domestic requirements of structures many times larger. The design of this cabin is premised on three goals. First, to provide the required spaces for an extended stay cabin within a minimal footprint. Second, provide a quality of space and abundant natural daylight typically not found in this size of structure. And third, to allow for simplicity of construction and maintenance.”

Shadow Light

This is awfully pretty- I’d imagine it would create quite a nice glow.

“Stretched gauze filters halogen-projected images from a fancifully painted mylar interior. Tord Boontje designed, Shadow requires no assembly.”

“Take Your Time” Table Runner

Such a clever way to keep the conversation going, this table runner has questions and answers that can be read from both ends of the table. It looks like the questions are more riddle-like than the getting-to-know-you variety, but hey, when you’re in a conversation rut, anything helps.

Made of 80% cotton, 20% Polyester, it is machine washable. Imported from The Netherlands.

Pick Your Nose Cups

These cups have certainly been making the rounds on the blog circuit, yet I still find them funny. Might be the perfect thing to take along to a holiday party…

“Each of these photo- realistic paper cups comes emblazoned with a new nose. When you tip your head to take a drink ‘voila’ you get an instant nose job, and a chuckle from the crowd.”

24 12-oz. cups in each pack, evenly divided between male and female

Oak Coat Rack by Big-Game

With cold weather fast approaching, or already here as the case may be, this coat rack is the perfect solution for your hats and coats and such. It leans against the wall, so it would be easy to move to wherever you need it, not to mention being able to store it in a closet or out of the way when the seasons are warmer- though you might not want to since it’s so sculptural.

“Made of two slits, cut into a linear piece of wood, the Oak Coat Rack’s beauty comes from its sheer simplicity. By avoiding any glueing or assembly, the quality of the wood is beautifully highlighted, making the materials the aesthetic focus of the piece, rather than the form.”

Thinkmap Visual Thesaurus (Software)

This is something smart- especially for those of us that tend to think in a more visual way.

“The Visual Thesaurus is an amazing piece of software. It’s an interactive dictionary and thesaurus with an innovative display that encourages exploration and learning. You will understand language in an exciting new way. And it’s visually interesting, so you’ll never hesitate to look something up.
A great gift for wordsmiths and students of all ages.”

Green Roof – A Case Study

For anyone even slightly interested in the concept, this book will shed some light on what goes into getting a green roof. This case study of a green roof garden commissioned by the American Society of Landscape Architects gives a thorough explanation of the construction and design process, and I do have to say that it makes a green roof more approachable, if not for the detailed facts, then for the multitude of pictures and diagrams that give visual aid to some of us that are less than familiar with the technical aspects.

Storyline by Frederik Roijé

This shelf would be just the thing to display your books- all the while being an excellent statement of modern aesthetic. I love that it can go vertical or horizontal and that you could change the look just by rearranging the books.

‘Sound finds a physical identity in the beautifully crafted Storyline bookshelf. By first processing a word into soundwaves, the physical shape is then mirrored in powder-coated steel, using an explicit folding technique. Appropriately enough, the word that inspired this lovely piece was “bliss”.’

Vinyl Poof Elephant by zid zid kids

I don’t really like to use the word “cute”, but in this case, it’s entirely applicable. Love the silver elephant image on the powder blue background.

“They’re the perfect size for a child to sit on, but the bright, engaging designs and foam filling make them fun to climb on, too, and roll around, and just plain enjoy.”

High quality, durable vinyl. Insert is 100% recycled cotton. Zippered closures.

Nakashima Straight-Backed Chair

At this price, it would be strange not to treat it as a precious possession, but even so, it is a remarkable piece that shows thought and care in design and production.

‘Presenting a very special re-introduction: the Nakashima Straight-Backed Chair (1948), designed by George Nakashima for Knoll. Nakashima was an MIT-trained architect who was known to describe himself as “Japanese Shaker.” This was meant to express his belief that his designs should be treated as everyday functional objects, not precious possessions.’

Harry Allen Limited Edition Red-Chrome Pig Bank

I pretty much love everything that Harry Allen has done, and the fact that Tobias Wong thought of this particular edition makes it quite collectible.

“This limited edition was conceived by Tobias Wong and Josée Lepage and is a C&M exclusive, limited to 100 pieces…Similar to the remainder of the work, it is cast out of 100% Resin, 5.25″ x 10″ x 18″ (13,5 x 25 x 46 cm) in size, closed with a solid cork and plated completely with red chrome.”

Sorry, it looks like the red isn’t available anymore, but if you’re interested in White, Pink, Gold or Chrome:

Drew Heath Architects

Here’s a handful of pictures that might inspire your next remodel or building. I’m currently reading
Little House on a Small Planet by Shay Salomon, and it’s made me rethink small spaces- which is why the
Zig Zag Cabin (upper left) seems especially intriguing.
