Ripples Bench

This bench takes advantage of five different layers of wood- an engaging design that will no doubt be at home among other classics in years to come.

“To create his Ripples Collection (2003), Toyo Ito was inspired by the appearance of concentric circles spreading across the surface of water that’s been disturbed by a thrown pebble…Created with five layers of different woods – walnut, mahogany, cherry, oak and ash – Ripples is created by pressing together 5mm-thick layers of each wood…Due to the natural variations in the grain of these woods, every Ripples Bench is unique.”

InsideOut Martini Glass, Set of 2

The InsideOut Martini Glasses are available for presale- so now’s the time to put your name down in preparation for all your holiday entertaining (or gift-giving).

“..it creates a wonderful presentation and is a lot better to hold than balancing an overly wide glass filled to the rim on a thin stem…Besides the visual beauty, there is another extremely convincing argument: your drink simply doesn’t warm as fast as it would in a normal martini glass…”

Marie Louise Lamp by Buro Vormkrijgers

This lamp looks amazing, but you sure would have to save up for it.

“Made of PMMA sheets illuminated by a special fluorescent bulb, Marie Louise is definitely a new take on the traditional table lamp. As with the chandelier “Therese”, and the floor lamp “Josephine”, Marie Louise emits a soft magic glow. A definite eye-catcher in any environment.”

Bomba Alarm Clock

I love this alarm clock- it looks like something out of a science fiction movie, but in a very tame, nondescript sort of way.

“The Bomba alarm clock designed by Wil Van Den Bos features a technical design with moving gears and blue illumination for night time viewing. The blue night lighting can be dimmed or turned off. This modern clock…operates on AC power with the included low voltage adapter.”

Hourglass Clock

“The Hourglass Clock is a clock like no other. Designed by David Dear, this modern clock displays the time as the top and bottom rotate independantly of each other. The passing seconds are displayed by the spinning circle on the top surface of the clock. This clock is 6.5″ high by 4.75″ in diameter and operates on one AA battery (not included).”

Tom Kundig: Houses

This book has some amazing pictures, and actually covers each home in depth by dedicating more than three pages to each one. I absolutely love the huge windows.

Puma Bento Box

I saw this in a store recently, and after a few moments of wondering what it was, I finally picked it up and opened it- much to my surprise, it’s actually a cute little container to hold lunches or snacks. Now, I’m not sure if ‘cute’ is a qualifier for your food containers, but it looks to be well designed and compact enough to fit comfortably within any bag. If anyone knows differently, please let us know.

“Designed to accomodate the working lifestyle, the collection re-addresses and re-organizes the needs and priorities of the working urbanite to provide greater relevance to their lifestyles.”

World Traveler’s Plug Set

These make adapting your electrical devices look fun- maybe because they look kind of puzzle-ish?

Made of high-impact plastic. For use with electrical appliances that suit or are switchable to suit the foreign wall outlet voltage.”

Alex Drawer Unit

So, normally we don’t post things from Ikea because it’s just too easy. They’ve got loads of inexpensive suitable/good design, and we figure people don’t need much help there. But, I should probably share that we recently redesigned our office, and the main change was from a simple long desk to an L-shaped one with this added drawer unit underneath. For a little more than $100, it works pretty well and looks pretty decent. Maybe it’s not for everyone, but if you’re on a budget it works just fine.

**Also, Apartment Therapy recently invited us to share our workspace pics on their ‘Behind the Blog’ feature, so if you’re curious about where I post from, you can see it here. (And in response to one of the comments- yes, the poster is everywhere but I don’t care. I love it anyways. So there.)

For $300 you can buy a decent desk. That’s a pretty good deal considering nice shoes cost about that much. Shoes or a desk…which one do you need more?

Lorea Bowl

It’s rare that we post a fruit bowl, but this one is well worth the space.

“Inspired by the art of origami, the Lorea fruit bowl is a simple design with great aesthetics. Three different finishes are available, each one contrasting elegantly with the fruit revealed between the folds of the wood.”

ReadyMade: How to Make [Almost] Everything

I received this as a gift last year, and it’s worth a flip-through, if not a proper read. It’s got a few projects that are really quite doable, and a few that are worth a chuckle.

“Each section begins with a history of the “raw” material, designed to make readers more aware of the environment and the uses of these materials…the authors also offer how-to advice, both silly (how to write a love note) and useful (how to self-publish). The playfulness extends to noncraft instruction on what to do with plastic (“how to start a business on credit cards”) and glass (“how to break through your own glass ceiling”). Inspired by Marcel Duchamp, who coined the term “readymade,” the authors are interested in encouraging creative thinking as much as, if not more than, making re-purposed objects.”

INSTEON SwitchLinc Relay Countdown Timer

This would be handy to have in certain rooms like closets or pantries, or anywhere else where you find that you forget to turn the lights off.

“Press the paddle top to turn on the switch and activate the built-in timer, which will automatically turn the light off in 15 minutes. Tap the paddle top again, and the light will stay on for 1 hour. Each additional tap will add another hour to the timer, up to a maximum of 24 hours. If you would like the SwitchLinc Timer to act like a standard switch, press and hold the paddle top for about 2 seconds, and it will stay on until you turn it off.”
