Another calendar already and it’s not even the end of August? I know, I know, but this one is a perpetual calendar. Anyone who’s visited this site often enough will know that I’m fanatic about perpetual calendars, specifically well-designed ones, so I can’t not post it. This one from Workhorse Printmakers is letterpress printed, foil stamped and die cut for a functional circular design. Workhorse also has a green calendar on their site, if that suits you better.

Whoa, here’s a clock that’ll knock anyone’s socks off. You’ll need to watch the video to get the full effect, but here’s a quick explanation: the twenty-four small round clocks create one big digital display. All the smaller clock hands are choreographed to show either 12- or 24-hour time, with three different modes of movement. As I said before, watch the video and you’ll appreciate how this clock is almost more of an art piece than a time telling device… hence the price.

Let’s take a look at the Milà Chair by Jaime Hayòn for Magis. It’s a little less severe than some of our other favorite chairs, but it has a sculpted, playful quality that reminds us a little of Gaudí’s creations (i.e. Catalan Modernism). The organic shape is achieved thanks to a a gas-assisted injection moulding technique, which makes the Milà easier to produce and therefore very affordable. Keep a set outside or indoors; they’re stackable too.

You could say that this price is kind of high for a skinny leather bench, but then I’d need to remind you that it has a marble side table incorporated into its powder-coated metal frame and it would be a cool piece to have in an entryway or odd corner space, especially as it would add seating without taking up too much visual or physical space. Then you’d say I’m right, and we would both be glad we’re friends that can discuss design without punching each other in the face.

Are you going to stay up late to watch the Perseid Meteor Shower tonight? You should try, as there’s going to be quite the show- between 160 and 200 meteors every hour until Friday morning. That’s a “meteor hurricane.” For other times, you could gaze upon Best Made’s Map of the Constellations to contemplate the stars above, as it charts the stars of both northern and southern hemispheres and includes helpful diagrams of earth’s axis, phases of the moon, solstices, equinoxes, and eclipses.
