In theory, it’s probably best to reduce the amount of bedside clutter or get a bigger nightstand than add in an extra little pocket caddy. However, if you absolutely have to have all your stuff (and you can’t find the right nightstand) then maybe it’s okay to get this little guy. Temporarily. Technically, it fits sofas as well, but, please, please, please try to avoid that usage by any means necessary- unless you can hide it behind a cushion or next to a wall. Why? Because this. Avoid that association, or else you’ll cause significant aesthetic discomfort*.

It’s not often that a storage container gets ooo’s and ahh’s, but this one deserves at least one of the former for its smart two-tier system. Hand blown glass containers nest together to create separate storage zones with a cork lid to keep contents safe. Store a few visually engaging objects in the top container for a floating effect, or go full-on functional and fill both with necessary home accessories. The gold and black or grey and orange color options certainly make a statement, or, of course, choose the clear glass for a quieter look.

Stash your stuff in these Three Teired Containers by Hatashikkiten. Yes, they are available in three nice color ways (the Navy, Ivory, Black is the winner in my book), but it’s the handmade nature and various storage use that grabs attention. The containers have a food safe urethane coating, so they’re entirely appropriate for keeping snacks sorted. Baskets aren’t usually the first thing you’ll find in a modern interior, but this Fair Trade Basket Collection possesses a sharp, sculptural quality that would do well whether used as objets d’art or as functional storage pieces. Made from palm wood, these baskets would normally warp over time, but Piet Hein Eek chose to specify thin slats strung together to allow for shrinking and expansion.

So, you’re probably developing a complex for the amount of organizational items I throw at you, but really, I’m just trying to help. Iittala’s Aitio Boxes (Aitio = theatre box in Finnish) strike me as the sort of thing that would work equally well in the kitchen or in an office area, as the powder-coated steel would withstand all manner of bumps and bruises. Hang a few on the wall or just set one or two on the countertop to corral kitchen or workplace miscellany.

Maybe you’ve seen one of these Restore Baskets floating around a favorite retailer, and admired its size and soft shape, but did you know it’s made from recycled PET bottles? Finnish designer Mika Tolvanen designed the Restore to be non-obtrusive and friendly, and it’s the perfect size for all manner of stuff- toys, books or even firewood. At first glance, you might think this is a very, very nice cooking pot, but, no, it’s a vanity/jewelry box. Paris-based designer Lee West has a collection of objects produced at the Carl Auböck workshops, and they all have the same sort of quality and elegance of Auböck’s original works. This particular box is patinated on the outside, with a contrasting brushed brass interior. A mirror is encased within the lid, providing a hand mirror whenever you should need it.

Just what little odds and ends need to be hidden away? Because chances are that they’ll fit inside the ObjectBoxes from designer Maya Bille. An acrylic sliding lid has the perfect balance of transparency and opacity; you can see the general idea of the box’s contents but not enough to distract you from the beauty of the box. Maybe it could make a nice home for your watches or jewelry? Or desk accessories?
