Bookstands and holders

Bookscapes

What, there’s a functional sculpture that displays your favorite books and I’m not going to tell you about it? Please. These ‘functional sculptures’ aren’t cheap, but they are quite special if you have some very special tomes. Mountains holds an open book, so that you may peruse the pages slowly. Peaks intends to show off a book’s cover, or one cover and several spines, if you so wish. Waves has blackened steel upright dividers to mark your place in your smaller novels and other current readings.

Folded Vessel

Ah-ha! This proves that some designers are mercifully kind to those of us that can’t afford to just plonk down a thousand plus dollars for a beautiful book/magazine stand. Chen Chen & Kai Williams have designed the Folded Vessel for Good Thing, and it’s similar, though less expensive, to their Third Eye Vessel design. Three identical petals fasten together to form the floor-standing container, giving you an excellent spot to keep your records, books, and magazines. The pale pink or cobalt blue are very appealing options if you don’t mind a little color.

Wooden Bookstand

I know, a Wooden Bookstand is not at the top of your need/want list. However, if you’re short on wall space, it could be just the thing to highlight your favorite photograph, painting or special book. Heck, it may even encourage you to play an instrument (it could hold sheet music as well), or, if not that, at least make you look a little more cultured.

Third Eye Vessel

I could have sworn we’ve featured the Third Eye Vessel by Chen Chen & Kai Williams before, but apparently I’ve been lusting after it for so long that its image is permanently embedded in my brain. It’s a vessel for holding books and magazines, and it keeps objects stacked at right angles, so you can easily see the spines. You may think it’s ridiculous to pay so much for such a thing, and the opinion that it looks regal and modern and somehow archetypal in its three-legged stance may not sway you into accepting the price tag. However, I’m fast becoming convinced that it may be something worth saving up for… what do you think?

Half Cube Vinyl Rack

Is this a decent stand for your vinyls or what? It’s not the fanciest, but it sure does look cool, and at $170 it’s not too bad of a price for keeping your favorites close by. I know, I know, you’re hesitant to purchase from the retailer as you’re not a tween, but you’ve got to keep your records organized somehow, and like I said, it’s a decent stand. You could even keep a few larger art books in it perhaps?

Lako Book Holder

If you maintain the belief that physical books shall always hold a place in your heart, and thus in your living room, you’ll need a proper place to keep your current stack of reading. And, should you have the room, why not go with a sculptural sort of holder, because, after all, “the pure structure of straight lines and angles allows for various possibilities of storing publications.” The handle at the apex allows for easy moving.

Page Markers by The Food Guide

You might think you have no use for wooden page markers, but then you’ll find yourself fumbling through a cookbook other other miscellaneous manual mumbling expletives because you can’t find that certain page, and the bookmark/flag you had put there weeks ago somehow fell out. That’s when you’ll remember these wooden tabs. 8 page markers in each pack, available in a Salt Stripes or Color. There’s also wooden stickers (for herbs and spices) if you want to go label crazy.

Cookbook holder

If you still fumble about with your cookbook while craning your neck to read ingredients, you need to stop messing around and get a cookbook holder. In most cases, they’re not that expensive, and they help free up a little more counter space so your culinary art skills have room to flourish. The Sagaform Cookbook Holder is a quite decent choice at $25, as is the Lipper Bamboo Holder at $18.53 (pictured below). You’d also do well to consider an acrylic shield option to protect your books from splatters and spills. More shown below.
