The simple and straightforward clock goes to show how a simple change in material and attention to detail can transform a relatively mundane object like a clock into something cherished and special.

Multi-time zone clocks are certainly nothing new, but this is the first analog one I’ve seen in which both share the same numbers. Anyone see a bit of Persistence of Memory in this? Comes in Large and Small sizes, priced at $360 and $260, respectively.

Materials: glass, alumnium, abs plastic, quartz movement, battery powered.
Colors: white, black, red
Large: Diam. 23.6″ x D 2.6″

You might have seen the Extra Normal Watch by Ross McBride, but have you noticed there’s a wall clock version as well? The laser-cut opening acts as the hour hand, which reveals the time as it travels around the face.
Designed by Ross McBride.
Diameter 8.75″

It’s been a while since I’ve checked out Supermarket, so I forgot how easy it is to get lost paging through all the recent additions. One collection that stood out was Chroma Lab, mainly for their simple-yet-colorful clocks. Funny enough, these aren’t the colorful ones, but they’re the ones I liked the most. Each clock is built by hand and either hand painted or screen printed.

If the Ultra Flat Wall Clock was way too colorful for your taste, then you’ll be happy to see this black and white version. Just like the color version, it’s half an inch thick, which makes it one of the thinnest clocks in the world.
Designed by Thomas Buchheim.

Designed by Thomas Buchheim, this super thin wall clock is just the thing to inject some color into your day. It measures in at just half an inch thick, which means you can hang it pretty much anywhere. Pretty impressive (and affordable too).
Uses one button cell LR1130 battery (included).

Made of around 50 bills of recycled Japanese Yen, this little clock will perhaps remind you of the money you’re making (or losing?) with each tick.

Take a look at these laser-etched Neverend Clocks. It’s a first edition of a series created by Kitsune Noir and Furni, with each edition featuring artwork from a different designer/artist. This particular one is by wallpaper designer and artist Dan Funderburgh, and if you’re not familiar with that name, you’re in for a treat. We’ve posted his Chinatown Toile and Flower Pedal wallpaper before, but there’s much more to be seen at his site.
Limited edition of 88 pieces, available through Furni.
Available in Black or Natural.

This clever piece of functional art combines a printed clock graphic with a real working clock mechanism. I’m thinking office or kitchen.

Taking some visual cues from the Wood Led Clock, the seemingly blank face of the Woodstation Clock’s interface will illuminate through its veneer with a wave of a handthanks to its built-in motion sensordisplaying the day’s forecast, temperature, humidity, time and date. It’s designed as a kid’s toy to stimulate young minds about weather and climate change, but it’s got such a great design that I wouldn’t mind having one myself.
Material: compressed recycled wood, coated for extra strength and durability.
Dimensions: 5″L x 2″W x 9″H
Uses 4 AA batteries or an adaptor (included).

I certainly love modern takes on traditional designs. Designer Sam Hecht ditches the radio and dreaded electronic alarm buzzer in favor of the traditional ringing bell alarm, and wraps it in a sleek and modern design. No, don’t worry, you won’t be needing to wind up this clock, the internal clock mechanism is battery powered.
Available Colors: Red, Black, White
Dimensions: W94 x D64 x H97mm
One AA battery included.

Not sure if many of you remember this being posted last year, but I sure do, because I ordered it only to discover a few weeks later that the retailer hadn’t sent it to me and wasn’t responding to any of my emails. I did get a refund, of course, but I was sort of sad when I couldn’t find it anywhere else. Well, that big long sob story is all to say ‘here it is!, I found it!’ (again).
Large white LED lights in metal case. UL approved adapter included.
Measurements : W 16.25 x D 2.25″

It’s sort of rare for wood to be raw, isn’t it? Usually there’s some sort of finish or stain, and maybe that’s why this one looks particularly fresh and new.

You remember doing a potato clock back in school, don’t you? Or at least you remember the idea? Well, using the same sort of principle, this clock creates electricity using wet soil from your own two potted plants, enabling you to have your own tiny electrical generator.
It uses electricity created by a reaction between zinc and copper electrodes, which are buried in the soil (you supply two potted plants). In this case, the wet soil becomes the electrolyte (the conductor) that enables the passage of voltage between the two electrodes. This battery can deliver 1.5 volts, but the earth must be kept moist, so don’t forget to water the plants! Handmade in the Netherlands.
Note: the zinc electrode will be consumed after several years of use. Not recommended for use with herbs or other plants you intend to eat.
