What is it?

Any clue as to what this little brass thing might be? Here’s a hint: it lives on a desk.

Now, don’t have an apoplectic fit when you see the price tag- it’s not per piece, rather it’s for the whole .ORG Deskscape System from L & G Studio (a.k.a. Ladies & Gentlemen Studio) in collaboration with Pat Kim. Four modules can be combined in different ways to suit your needs: there’s a mail organizer with adjustable metal dividers, a zig zag catch all tray, a cork block for pinning messages and cards, and the double container for smaller items you see above. Take a look and tell me if you’re not tempted to organize your desktop immediately afterwards.

The title doesn’t lie; it is, in fact, a marble notebook. Real marble covers the front and back covers, and, thanks to laminated webbing and recycled corrugate, the marble will flex to avoid breakage*. It opens perfectly flat so that you can scrawl your brilliant thoughts and/or drawings comfortably.

See all those dividers? See the bold blue? Is there any surprise I bought one of these the moment Field announced its existence? And, it has taken weeks (weeks!) for me to place in the spotlight. Apologies. As you might have guessed from the name, the ISO Organizer’s design and dimensions are based on international paper standards. Made from heavy-gauge cold rolled steel, the powder-coated divider has a thin cork underside to protect your desktop. With its hefty weight (almost 6 lbs.) and sturdy construction, it’s bound to scare any unruly piles of paper into order.

We’re all really, really lucky that Mette Hay (co-founder of design brand HAY) put together these gift sets, because now finding a gift for a friend or co-worker is super easy. What about the Neutral or Colorful Stationery Gift Set for a co-worker? Or the Kitchen Gift Set or the Toiletries Gift Set for a sibling or friend? All hit the right note of fun and functional.

A little perforated pattern won’t harm your kitchen or desktop, for it adds a little punch of organization with its tidy grids- maybe subconsciously it will encourage you to get your ducks in a row, so to speak. Perhaps your kitchen utensils will sit nicely in the larger holder, or maybe your pens will be at home in the low tray, either way, it always helps to have a couple of containers around to confine necessary clutter.

We can avoid thinking about 2016 all we want, but that won’t do anything to postpone its arrival. Might as well prepare yourself by thinking about a new planner for the new year, right? Poketo has a fresh collection of open-dated planners, with weekly and monthly pages ready to start whenever you’d like. I chose the large Mon Cahier Planner myself, but this latest group would fit into a bag much easier for on-the-go planning. Plus, the fun covers are a definite bonus.

Do you use pencils? Do you have a plastic pencil sharpener? Pfft. Toss it in the recycling bin, because this one is much better. Made of solid brass, the Dux sharpener is built to last. The weight of it alone would keep it from getting lost/shuffled around with your other desk tools, but there’s no guarantee that it wouldn’t walk away with a coworker with sticky fingers, so watch out.

Need a place for odd notes, photos and other such sundries? Consider Wrong For Hay’s Cork Cone, as it has plenty of room for a vertical tower of pinnables. And, if your paperclips need a home, perhaps you should take a look at the Magnetic Tower as well, as it will gather those small metal clips with ease.

Pen and pencil cases aren’t just for school-age children, you know. Those of us on the go don’t want to leave our prized writing/drawing instruments behind, and a case that has a trick up its sleeve might be just the thing to keep our bags and workspaces organized (and clients and coworkers impressed?). Similar to vintage ‘trick boxes’, this Tanno Free Case requires one push of its wood button for the tray to pop out. Sort of fun, isn’t it? Fully constructed in wood save for the one metal spring, the case is a lesson in craftsmanship.

Deliberate, simple, clean… maybe that’s how your coworkers describe you, but I’m talking about the walnut set you see above. Solid wood, brass, porcelain, and vegetable-tanned leather all work harmoniously together for a desk set that’s sure to say you mean business.

It’s a very, very large paperclip. Use it as a bookmark, as shown above, or as a paperweight. Considering it’s designed by Carl Auböck, and hand-crafted from solid brass in Auböck’s fourth-generation Viennese workshop, it will retain its value for years to come. Don’t believe me? Do a search for Auböck’s pieces on any collector’s site (or Ebay) and you’ll see. Consider this as a very nice gift for that someone who has everything (except a huge brass paperclip).

This little guy is just the thing to help keep you organized. Shipped flat in pieces, you assemble it into a little geometric landscape to keep papers and things upright where you can see them. Stash your favorite writing utensils towards the front for easy access. Choose between a grey/light pink and a grey/deep blue.
