Another folded paper lamp, yawn… but wait, it’s not paper, it’s ceramic! Which means it’ll break if you drop it, so don’t. The patterned surface will lend just enough texture to a room and you’ll get the nice, even glow you’d expect from a ceramic shade. And, the size is just right for a small breakfast nook, or maybe even beside the bed suspended above the nightstand.

The smaller version of this chandelier has always stood out for its elegance and affordability, but man-oh-man, the extra large version is even better. It’s almost 5 feet across! This is a prime example of getting one heck of a bang for a few bucks.

A portable light with magnetic points? Do go on. Depending on where you place the lamp, the light will change, and as there are various surfaces on the metal bookstand/shelf, you’ll have fun messing around with different vantage points. Degree, Quattro, what are we here, a drugstore? Despite that bad imagery, turn your eyes toward the new Quattro LED Task Lamp by Robert Sonneman and Peter Polick. If Mondrian and Rietveld come to mind, you’re not alone- the black, yellow and red finish along with the rectilinear form are spot on De Stijl, and if you’re not familiar with those names, do yourself a favor and follow the links (it’s difficult to fully appreciate modern design without knowing its roots). Back to the lamp- it uses Flat Panel LED technology to produce an even and glare-free light. There’s also touchless dimming control thanks to an optical sensor. Also available in black, white, and aluminum finish if the red/yellow/black doesn’t suit your taste.

Bear with me here as I calm myself down from a conniption fit. I’m frantically trying to figure out where in my home I need an extra (and rather large) swing arm lamp after perusing the awfully affordable wall lights from onefortythree. (Have we posted these lamps before? Who cares?) You think I’m over exaggerating, and I am ever so slightly, but just take a look at the prices- $95, $145, $275- and each light is remarkably lovely. You can’t go wrong with those prices or any of the lamps… but, if you do, just let me know and I’ll be happy to take it/them off your hands.

Now, don’t get too excited as this is just a shade, and not a complete pendant light, and it’s intended for interiors with electrical conduit. However, if you’ve got an interior (say, a retail or café-type environment) with exposed electrical conduit, then you’re now allowed to jump up and down as you’ve an affordable solution to your lighting problems. This 8″ fixture simply slides over the conduit and rests neatly on a ceramic lampholder (see Noah’s website for details).

A bit of brass won’t hurt you if you put it in the right place, namely, above your head in the shape of a light fixture. Bestlite lamps have a history; did you know that Robert Dudley Best’s lamp was the first example of Bauhaus in the UK, and required quite a bit of argument to put it into production? What might be made from wooden pallets? Lamp shades, of course! There’s a little assembly required, but that means less shipping costs from the UK, so can those complaints and count your cash. No gluing, screwing, or hammering needed, just click each piece in place. Each shade is slightly different as wooden pallets vary, but you can pick the color of elastic to unify a set or grouping.

Prepare yourself for a higher-than-normal price tag, and then admire how this lamp hides most of its technical side under a very simple and clean exterior. Flat-panel LED technology makes quite the difference, as seen in the specs of this Cielo Pendant Light. It lasts for 50 thousand hours or 25 years of daily use. Pretty different from those regular bulbs we all had (and may still have) in our homes. LED technology has allowed this efficiency, and in the case of this lamp, it used only 8 watts of power. Contrast that with a regular 60 watt bulb and you’ll understand the savings. As an extra bonus, the Cielo is glare free, warm (color temperature: 3000K), and dimmable.
