I’ve got my sights set on these lights from Anzfer Farms, which is just too darn bad since I’m in the UK (voltage difference, blergh). But, hey, if you’re in the good ol’ US of A, you should take a look. They’re made from reclaimed wood, some (or all) of which are gathered on the San Francisco shoreline, and have just the right amount of rustic to go with your modern (and eclectic?) surroundings. The set of four shown above sell for $400 on Anzfer’s etsy shop, but individual ones are available for around $100-$120.

For his series of Facet Lamps, designer Brendan Ravenhill drew inspiration from industrial light fixtures. Cleverly though, he forgoes manufacturing processes such as spun metal or ceramics that are traditionally used to create these lamps, and utilized an array of cut and bent sheet metal, creating a geometric pattern that is uniquely modern, yet still evokes the spirit of the original industrial shades. I don’t know if the light shining through at the bends was intentional or a byproduct of manufacture, but either way I love it.

I’m steadily making my way through featuring the various new lamps from Blu Dot’s collection, and I have to say I’m mightily impressed with the offerings. This Watt Table and Floor lamp are weirdly futuristic, but in an entirely good way. The steel panels angled together look like some child’s drawing of an alien ship, or a gross exaggeration of a pixellated spider with only 5 legs. Or a simple steel lamp entitled ‘Watt’. Nonsense aside, they’re cool looking and would give an edgy sort of atmosphere to a room.

This little table lamp is one of the highlights of Blu Dot’s new collection, mostly because it’s satisfyingly chunky and modern. It looks like it’s got the right amount of heft to stake its claim on any side table or desktop and it has the neat trick of being able to stand on one leg (see below) too. It’s a lighter that looks like a candle. Nothing fancy, but it may be a little nicer to look at than a regular ol’ lighter. Maybe.

This Book Light by Studio MS appears to have a lovely soft glow, no doubt due to the delicate pleated paper used to conceal the bulb. The small fawn-colored book is available from Gretel, but contact Studio MS to see other colors and the hanging (£180/$200) and larger version (£200/$230).

This is a great little modern piece from CB2 that looks decidedly more sophisticated than the price tag may indicate. Resin base with glossy powdercoat finish topped with Linen/poly shade.

Occasionally while scanning through websites I’ll come across similar products at very different prices and wonder just where the line gets drawn between affordable and expensive. For example, one of these pendant lights is $40 and the other is $400. Of course, they are different in obvious ways (one’s red and has an old school vibe, the other white and minimal), but for a simple pendant you have to wonder if the difference justifies the price discrepancy. As always, the consumer decides…

If you’re on a tight budget, check out this layered light. At 14″ by 32″ high, it’s big enough to hold its own over a dining area yet the price ($68) won’t put a big dent in your wallet. I like how it feels organic in a Boontje-esque way.

Here’s a surprisingly affordable table lamp from CB2. It’s got that minimal/luxe look with a white linen shade and a handblown glass cylinder base. The red cloth cord is a nice detail too.

If you’ve long been a fan of Roberto Menghi’s iconic Globo di Luce Pendant (1968), you’ll be happy to know that the copper version is on sale right now. I’m not sure if DWR is discontinuing the copper or if it’s just a summer sale, but either way you’ll save half off the regular price.

If you’ve not seen the offerings from Cleveland based furniture design and manufacturing company Objeti, you’re in for a treat. The Twiggy LED Lamp is just one of many things I’ve been waiting to post (as not all items have hit retail shops) and it certainly does not disappoint. Two ball and socket joints allow for a multitude of positions, meaning you’ll get light right where you want it in a very stylish manner.

A seemingly simple balloon-like shape is made interesting by the use of materials. I’m sure the diffused light would give the room a warm glow, plus, the maple veneer would be nice as an added textural element. Two sizes available; some assembly required.
