Verbarius Electronic Clock

It’s your birthday! Well, it probably isn’t, but if you were one of the many (all 3 of you) that emailed in after we posted this clock forever ago, wondering where you might be able to purchase it stateside, you can now pretend it is your birthday, because MoMA Store has the Verbarius in stock. Keep your pants on, it only took five years. If you’re not familiar, the Verbarius replaces numbers with words using one of five preloaded languages: English, German, Spanish, French, and Russian. Extra points to you if you decide to freshen up your foreign language skills by switching it up every now and then.

Kaico Enamel Milk Pan

Who in the world needs a specialized milk pan? Pfft, not me, that’s for sure, especially after trying to heat up milk for a matcha latte yesterday. Yes, I said matcha latte, and yes, I’m aware that it’s a very easy recipe, but I somehow made a mess of things, and now I’m thinking that my counters would not have been splattered with green milky tea if the pan I used was smaller and had had a useful spout. If heating up milk is anywhere in your daily/weekly/monthly/seasonal life, this pan would be a treat to have on hand. The Kaico series has an enamel coating over steel which makes each piece durable and thermal-efficient. Also available in the series is the Kaico Coffee Pot $130, Kaico Kettle $140, and the Kaico Pasta Pan $190.

Multiples Pencil Holder

Surprise, surprise, what do we have here from a retailer that some of us completely forget about? It’s a metal pencil holder done in the loveliest shades of blue and teal, at a rather reasonable price too. The only thing that would make it better is if the base or cylinders were magnetic, though that wouldn’t add much to the functionality, it would just make it more fun.

“Mates for Life” Print

If a simple ‘I love you’ has lost its meaning, you better come up with something fast to get your message across. Let’s not discuss that awful holiday fast approaching, as it’s merely an excuse to buy horrible chocolates and flowers (soon eaten and wilted, respectively), but let’s do think about this print from Jacqueline Schmidt of Screech Owl Design. She has illustrated a few very special species that mate for life, and if you decide to buy this as a way to show your affection/admiration/attraction, all you’ll have to say after your loved one opens it up is “and us, of course.” And then, “what frame do you want for it?” So romantic. There’s also a lovely “Celebrate the Alphabet” Poster, $40, available with animal illustrations in color, perfect for a child’s room (or for yours if you really love animals and the alphabet).

Kaleido Trays

Yes, yes, and yes. This collection of powder-coated steel trays stack together for easy storage. Just how many places could you use them in? Kitchen, bathroom, office, anywhere where you need a little help organizing the bits and bobs associated with your daily life. And, if I may say so, the colors are excellent in their unexpectedness.

Royal VKB French Carafe Set

This carafe set has been around a while, yet we all need reminding that there’s no need for trays when it comes to refreshments. Just stack the four bistro glass tumblers on the carafe’s neck to make transport easy from the kitchen to table. And, don’t stop at water- the updated (slightly shorter and wider) carafe available through the Royal VKB webshop is perfect for decanting and serving wine.

Chisel Boards

Will a small notch out of a nice piece of wood tempt you to spend $120 Canadian dollars? If your answer is no, perhaps you didn’t see how pleasantly multiples fit together. Specifically, how the notches would give an angular feel once set side by side, adding a little geometry to your food presentation. If you couldn’t care less about how your food is presented, then lucky you, no need to spend the money.

‘House’ Firewood Log Holder

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s not everyday that you run across decent firewood holders, much less one that doesn’t cost half a grand (to be fair, that link is to a log carrier, not holder) or more. Now, this holder won’t catch the dirt/debris that firewood is bound to shed once brought indoors, but it is made of square-section iron and it’s in the shape of a simple, line-drawn house. That shape (and its price) seems preferable to most other wood holders available nowadays. A few others that seem decent around the $200 mark are linked to below.

Alyson Fox Rugs

I’ve long been a fan of the artist Alyson Fox, so this post is actually past due considering her collaboration with West Elm was in the press clippings months ago. The three rugs (still) available all have silvery, muted color palettes, which seem to fit the mood of this burgeoning year quite well. The patterns provide a subtle sort of interest, more of a quiet-yet-strong suggestion instead of a loud, bright shout. More images and info below.

Copper Pencil Holder

This pencil holder may tempt those copper thieves lurking around your desk, so best keep implements sharpened and eyes alert. The higher-tiered levels will help order various sized pens and pencils, while the shallow levels would be perfect for smaller erasers, paperclips, and miscellany. There’s also a Copper Cup ($30) and Copper Tray ($73).

Ferm Wire Baskets

How could you use a basket? How about for storing firewood, laundry, towels, magazines, toys, or your discarded dreams? It’s way too early in the year for that, though, so let’s just stick to tangibles. You can even turn these baskets upside down and use them as a side table or stool. Or crazy hat. Such versatility. Powder coating available in yellow, black, or rose.

Wall Lamp

If you think you’ve seen this light before, you might be thinking of the Bracket Lamp by Dino Sanchez. There’s similarities in the design, of course, but there’s a few distinct details that perhaps explain the price difference. The Bracket Lamp has a permanent intersecting joint and a more streamlined ceramic fixture, while you can see this wall lamp has a removable stub tenon joint and a traditional solid brass socket. Which one is preferable? That’s completely up to you.

Table Island

Here’s a different sort of organizer that looks better being used than sitting empty. This ‘island’ will hold all manner of miscellany- phone, keys, wallet, devices- on its compressed cork landscape. There are three staggered dividers, any of which would also hold an iPad in easy reading position. It could live in the kitchen as a recipe reading stand or perhaps on your desk or entryway table as a charging station and catch-all for those important pocket contents.

“Merican Dream” Doormat

Sure, there’s the Hola and The Neighbors Have Better Stuff doormat, but if you believe (and are running after) the ‘merican dream, then this is the one for you. Made of natural coco fiber, vinyl, and enamel. Also, the “Better Bag” Canvas Tote is worth taking a look at, especially considering all the effort that goes into selecting the right tote nowadays.

Fairisle Rugs

You might remember the original Fairisle Rugs by Donna Wilson from a couple of years ago. Don’t worry, they’re still around, they just have a few slight variations in color. These hand-loomed Fairisle rugs feature a chunky knit texture and bright zigzag patterns that will give a room a good punch of pizazz. Made from 100% New Zealand wool.
