Occasionally while scanning through websites I’ll come across similar products at very different prices and wonder just where the line gets drawn between affordable and expensive. For example, one of these pendant lights is $40 and the other is $400. Of course, they are different in obvious ways (one’s red and has an old school vibe, the other white and minimal), but for a simple pendant you have to wonder if the difference justifies the price discrepancy. As always, the consumer decides…

Shh…it’s a secret.  At a first glance these Air Mail envelopes from Sweetie Pie Press are nothing out of the ordinary, but when held up to a light source they reveal a secret message, and in this case, an uplifting and comforting one. This is a first in series of envelopes so we’re definitely looking forward to seeing the upcoming ones.

I’m more than a little taken with these alphabet cushions by Elsie Dodds. Each cushion is decorated with all sorts of imagery attached to a particular letter which is printed on the reverse. It’s up to you whether you find it appropriate for your living room or for someone learning their ABCs, and maybe for some of you it’ll be both.

Continuing their line of energy-saving products as part of their Conserve line, Belkin recently released the Insight, a plug-in energy monitor that will track electricity consumption of any device plugged into it (wattage), carbon dioxide produced, as well as the actual monetary cost of energy usage. Definitely useful for the gadgets you leave on all day like your computer, but it will also aid in finding and keeping tabs on the not-so-obvious devices that draw power unbeknownst to you.

We posted this way back in 2005, and if you’ve searched our archives, you know that updates are often needed. This rug by Nauris Kalinauskas is perfect for anyone that likes mixing things up occasionally, as you can interchange the pieces to fit the size and color combination you want. If you’re on a tight budget, check out this layered light. At 14″ by 32″ high, it’s big enough to hold its own over a dining area yet the price ($68) won’t put a big dent in your wallet. I like how it feels organic in a Boontje-esque way.

Here’s a surprisingly affordable table lamp from CB2. It’s got that minimal/luxe look with a white linen shade and a handblown glass cylinder base. The red cloth cord is a nice detail too.

Using only surplus yarns, each of these rugs by Alicia D. Keshshian is tied in a traditional Tibetan knot and GoodWeave certified. There’s a few different color ways available in each of the different styles, but keep in mind that most sizes are around 24″x36″. All rugs are zero waste.
