Balloon Shakers

Masayuki Kurokawa’s concept behind these Shakers was to see the contents, so that in addition to regular salt and pepper containers, they could also be used for all sorts of seasonings. Each is hand-blown by Shotoku Glass Co., who used to make lightbulbs in Japan.

Moleskine Unitied States Cities

That’s right, Moleskine has added quite a few United States cities to its collection of city notebooks. The city map is invaluable, and there’s tons of room for making notes on shops and restaurants to revisit (or avoid). I fully recommend getting whichever one for exploring whatever city you’re visiting, as I’ve found mine extremely handy to have.

New Woolly Pocket Colors

If you were a bit ho-hum with the original dark colors of the Woolly Pocket Collection, you’ll be happy to hear they’ve added ‘camel hair’ and ‘peacock blue’ to the color selections. Fingers crossed there’ll be even more colors soon (like pink or purple maybe).

Amelia Snail Dish

Apparently this polished stainless steel dish by Lluis Clotet is an homage to the characters from the novels of the Spanish poet Foix (of which a context is not so easy to find). Whatever the homage, there’s no doubt that this dish could be a functional art piece, though it would hurt to see it get scratches, wouldn’t it?

Dimension: 1.5 in. H x 7.25 in. Diam.
Designer: Lluis Clotet

Chalkboard Globe

We’ve posted plenty of map-themed items before; Haptic Lab Quilts, Magnetic Future Map, Places on Earth, but this will be the first where you can literally create your own world. The outlines of the continents are painted on, leaving youร‚ย  on your own to create the division lines and territories. Undo the Louisiana Purchase. Create Jeff Land. Or draw some sea monsters. You get the idea.

Dimensions:

30″ tall, 19” diameter globe.

On a side note, this could easily be a weekend diy project; buy a globe at a flea market and paint it.

Eklipse Music System

I swear, make a music player with an iPod dock, paint it shiny black (and keep it minimal) and you have yourself a willing audience waiting to send you money. It always helps if it sounds good, of course. There’s a bunch of Sonoro Systems on sale through Gilt Groupe, so if you’re one of those willing, you might want to take a look.

Eklipse Music System, $499.00 $365.00

Extra Normal Wall Clock

You might have seen the Extra Normal Watch by Ross McBride, but have you noticed there’s a wall clock version as well? The laser-cut opening acts as the hour hand, which reveals the time as it travels around the face.

Matt Lamp

Four feet of soft, knitted cord means you can play around with how this lamp is displayed. Hanging a few over a dining table (maybe twisted/knotted together) could be interesting, or the loop idea on a wall over the bed would be a nice soft texture to a sleeping area. A silicone-covered energy saving bulb is included, so you won’t have to worry about safety.

Designed by llot llov.

Distortion Candlestick

While this has quite a bit of wait time, it’s an excellent price for a great little conversation piece. Rapid prototyping is really enabling designers to make some interesting stuff, as is the case with this candlestick. A traditional candlestick form is warped through 3D rendering, then rapid prototyped and cast.
