I firmly believe every home should have something a bit weird or whimsical (if they don’t, it just so serious), and this cute-yet-sort-of-odd lamp fits the bill.

I love this so much. I think it would be such an excellent gift for a newborn, though it might be a little heavy (not weight-wise, although there is that, I mean more like possible awkwardness if the new parents couldn’t quite grasp the coolness of getting a huge empty somber-looking book for their baby…I guess you’ll have to be selective).
