Check this out: what functions essentially as a candle is actually an LED. That in itself is nothing particularly new, but this flickering light has a magnetic “match” which turns it on or off.

The Hono Light (2005) combines the warm ambient glow of a candle with advancements in LED technology to create an “object that fascinates us in a moment.” This is Chiaki Murata’s goal for everything in his product line, Metaphys. When lit, Hono flickers like candlelight, with a “flame” produced by an algorithm-programmed LED. Turn it on or off by gently striking a magnetic “match” on the lamp’s surface. The light can also be blown out, like a candle, and will automatically turn back on after 10 seconds. Able to be safely affixed to a wall, Hono has some advantages over traditional wax. It comes with a charger, and one 15-hour charge will keep Hono illuminated for eight hours.

These woodblocks have some excellent graphics.

This multi-faceted piece turns the concept of traditional alphabet blocks on its head by featuring an array of multi-functional patterns and colors. Not just a set of wood blocks, but two puzzles, numbers and letters, too. A great gift for all ages.

The Letters combine notNeutral’s favorite vintage and contemporary fonts. They picked the most distinct letter forms for each letter on two of the block sides. This is a lovely sake pitcher with slight indentions for ease of use.

The simple idea behind the Pressure Sake Pitcher was to create a handle less pitcher. This is achieved by replacing the handle with two indentations that fit one’s hand when grasping this object. Clever interpretation…

Really simple and really well done the XO is a Tic Tac Toe game and yes, you might argue that there are a ton of them out there, but this one is special as it is played on a mirrored surface and the X and O are only half of what they should be. Why? Well, you are playing it on a mirror surface, hence no need for the other half.

I admit I know next to nothing about audio/stereo equipment. Other than the fact that the sound system I have sounds a whole lot better than just the built-in speakers that come with the TV or computer, if you asked me any other questions I’d be blank. Hmm…does anyone else find the set of ‘extra hands’ to be a little bit creepy?

This extensive collection of kitchenware was inspired by the witches and wizards of Western lore. Originally designed by Tord Boontje, each piece was then handcrafted by artisans in one of three South American countries: Colombian artisans hand-molded the black ceramic cookware, Guatemalan craftsmen handcarved the wooden kitchen utensils, and Brazil’s Coopa-Roca women’s cooperative hand-sewed the kitchen couture. Infused with a strong sense of local tradition, this collaborative effort in sustainable design succeeds in preserving the folkloric nature of witchery… without, of course, any of the lingering stigma.
