While walking around NYC, Katie and I stumbled upon the MOMA store, which has a large section of Muji items from the well known Japanese retailer. We each bought a number of items, but the one I think we were both most excited about was the mini stapler. It’s tiny, functional and a perfect addition to my mobile office.

This is one umbrella stand that garners notice. Inspired by the artist Yves Klein, Eva Schildt uses a sponge to play on the theme of water. A steel frame contrasts nicely with the softness of the sponge.

It’s rare that bookends catch my attention, but these seem to do the job with just the slightest sense of humor.
“designed by eric janssen, the quote/unquote bookends are for the truly literate with books that speak to them in image alone. concrete core with synthetic rubber exterior.”

The floor lamp version is especially interesting…
“In its ‘off’ position this is a white rectangle, seemingly blending into the wall. But pull on the cord, and the glow of a sconce is revealed.”

It’s no secret we like hexagons here at bltd, so it comes naturally that a ‘geodetic’ dome by Patricia Urquiola would, of course, be posted.
“From the designer of the ‘T-table”, “Usame” and “Buckle” watch, comes “Orloff”. Patricia Urquiola imagined a sort of inverse geodetic dome, transformed into bowls of two sizes. The project put deep-molding technicians to the test, as the containers are made from a single disc of drawn plate 18/10 stainless steel, without welding.”

This sounds like it required some very precise scientific procedures, which makes it that much more impressive.
“The appearance of the Copper Shade is achieved by converting copper into a vapor, and then depositing the vapor on the interior of the plastic dome. This ‘vacuum-metalized’ film of copper is only microns thick.”

This system allows for a wide combination of geometrical shapes of different shapes and size. The collection is made up of spheres, ovals and diamonds.”

A new clever foam radio from Lexon…
This funky little radio by Elise Berthier is pretty basic – a straightforward AM/FM radio encased in a slab of foam – but produces surprisingly good sound, thanks to its built-in amplifier. Takes 4 AAA batteries (included). Also available in black.
Care instructions: Avoid getting wet. Dust with a soft, dry cloth
