Float Tea Lantern and Tea Cups

I think maybe I posted this collection a while back (and if I didn’t, it’s gotten plenty of well-deserved attention from other sites) but now I’m bringing it to your attention again since I recently ran across a retailer. Each teapot is individually handmade in the Czech Republic from fine borosilicate glass (which is superior for its high temperature resistance) and, because of the design, you are able to pour it by hand just like any ol’ bottle. I guess I don’t have to mention that it’s absolutely the most beautiful teapot/lantern that I’ve ever seen- quite different from your average tea set to say the least.

“Designed by architects Stephanie Forsythe and Todd MacAllen in Vancouver, British Columbia, the Float Tea Lantern recently won acclaim at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York City and awards from both UNESCO and London’s The Architectural Review.”

Transglass Vases

I’ve seen these talked about in several different places, and most recently happened upon them when perusing Moss’s site (which is always dangerous for me). Made of recycled wine and beer bottles, these vases are the result of a collaboration between Emma Woffenden and Tord Boontje.

“The idea behind the collection is to use what we have. We take away, we appropriate, we transform. Hard, sharp, clean forms, original colours, as found within the bottles. We believe that Transglass is a glassware collection with a contemporary beauty that shows a positive attitude toward the environment.”

The color of each varies, of course, so you could end up with shades of green, clear and brown, and perhaps slightly different sizes- but that just means they’re more special.

Upstate Collection, Constantin Boym 2002

I like these so much I can hardly stand to talk about them. At first glance, these plates look like the picturesque towns and touristy places, but, upon closer inspection you notice that you don’t really know what’s going on. All of these plates are digital decal prints (on ceramic) of nondescript places in upstate New York. Telephone wires, ‘wrong’ cars on the road, and other odd things make these odd plates really quite wonderful. (Two more are available, just not shown here.)

Each plate is numbered from a limited edition of 300.

dimensions: 12″ wide.

Gus Magazine Rack

The people at design public are too funny not to quote:

As well as being interesting and handy, the Stainless Steel Magazine Rack from Gus Design Group gives you a new way to store your magazines–by rank! You can put the fun, fluffy magazines at the bottom and the significant, responsible ones at the top; you can work your way up the ladder from People and Entertainment Weekly to the very heights of dwell and The Economist. Or, you know, the other way around. People has reporting in it too.

Tak Pushpins

For me, the ah-ha! moment was the christmas light photo. And, thinking of how it must be twice as strong and sturdy than a regular ol’ tack…I have a habit of layering papers on my bulletin board at work and it’d be nice to have something up to the task.

Pile Wine Rack

Harry Allen has some pretty good designs, and this wine rack is one that I wouldn’t mind owning…

“Harry Allen’s whimisical and practical 2005 release in the Reality Series is a polyster resin cast of a joined wine bottles which have been sliced in half. The resulting object forms the base for creating or presenting stacked wine bottles.”
