Most of us can recognize the major constellations (Orion, the Big Dipper, etc.) but if we arm ourselves with the flat, plastic disc of the Miller Planisphere, we’ll be able to potentially learn and locate all of them. First, find your latitudinal position (map also available via retailer), then order the correct wheel. Once you have it in your hands, spin the wheel to pick the right date and time, and you’ll see all the constellations, stars, and planets above you, simple as that.

Here’s a different sort of alarm clock whose sound depends entirely on what you put in front of it. Huh? The signal sounds like a woodpecker drumming against a tree, but if you put a vase of water, or some other vessel or surface, against the ‘beak’ or nose, then you’ll create a different sound. A round, whirlwind of a rug is just what your [insert a room in your home] needs. Santa Fe’s Museum of Indian Arts & Culture (MIAC) partnered up with West Elm to revive a few patterns inspired by designs from an early 20th century Native basket, and there’s a couple of interesting options in the area rug arena. At six feet in diameter, this spinning triangle pattern will do a good job of putting a little pizzazz into an otherwise boring, ho-hum room.

It’s just what you never knew you needed- a display box that costs half a grand. What am I smoking? Nothing, I promise, but they’re just so darn perfect as dust-free receptacles for all manner a strange objet d’art, it’s tempting to forget the price tag.
