The Manuscrit Rug (2003) by Joaquim Ruiz Millet is part of Nani Marquina’s newest line of floor coverings. Manuscrit Rug a romantic poem that Millet – a writer, gallery director, exhibitions curator and designer – wrote in his native Catalan. The handwriting is his own, reproduced from an original page of a novel he’s writing, a work of fiction about power relationships imbued with highly charged eroticism. It represents the idea of a work of art on the floor, a bold rug with, literally, a great story. Hand made and hand tufted, Manuscrit has a knot count is 4,320 knots/sq. ft. Made in India.

This rug is lovely- the organic shapes next to pixel-like squares add an interesting twist to an otherwise simple graphic rug.

Belts made into a rug, huh? Sure enough, it does seem to take the look of a worn wooden floor and it would definitely be a unique addition to your home.

There’s something to be said for rugs that definitely qualify as ‘untraditional’. The drawn-like image gives interest without too much of a pattern…

100% Wool

Black/White, Brown/Blue, Pistachio/Purple, and Red/Brown

Not a bad price for a 100% handwoven wool rug, especially with the nice black/white graphic image.

The graphic nature of this nice black and white rug would certainly add a good amount of interest to any room.

100% New Zealand Wool. Some rugs are 70% wool and 30% silver viscose which gives a shimmering effect.

These circular rugs have a nice bold, slightly-wobbly border for a slightly casual look…

The Aros rugs are handmade from Bikaneri and New Zealand wool.

Dhurrie rugs (more of a flat, tight weave) are really quite durable and not nearly as expensive as most wool pile rugs. These have a nice pattern and would be an easy and affordable way to change the look of a living room or hallway.

I’m a big fan of Nani Marquina’s work. She has a great sense of texture and color, and this rug is no exception.

Great price for bamboo flooring.

If you’re a fan of patterned textiles, you might just jump for joy. This is an interesting design (would add a lot of ‘oomph’ to a room) for a reasonable price.

Inspired by the Rorschach inkblot tests, these felt rugs probably look pretty amazing in person–though it’s a little difficult to tell from this photo.
