Concrete Tumblers (set of 2)

You know how sometimes in movies people throw a glass at whoever they’re mad at and it ends up smashing against a wall? These glasses would do some serious damage…other than that, they look pretty cool.

“These fantastic glasses are a great combination of real concrete and glass and work perfectly for any occasion. A dirty Martini will work just as well as a neat Hendricks or any other high octane beverage. But, they also do a great job as water glasses because their design is so timeless and simple…”

Summer Porcelain Cup Set

Seeing as the summer is drawing to a close, it’s time to savor those evenings sipping refreshments. Why not do it in style from hand sculpted black and white etched cups? (Of course, it takes little investigative work to see these would be more appropriate for a discerning collector than in a child’s hand…)

Spot the odd one out! Painting the interior of one of the cups yellow, Rosaria Rattin sees no rules in ceramic design; she approaches each porcelain surface as if boldly printing fabric. Each cup is delicately sculpted and etched by hand, creating lines and shapes with individual character. Set of six assorted porcelain cups with a hint of lemon.

Porcelain Small Tumblers

The delicate smattering of dots add such a nice touch to these tumblers.

Petite tumblers are made from a creamy white or matte black porcelain and handpainted with a constellation of dots. The shapes vary from almost cylindrical (white) to fairly oval (black) due to how the porcelain behaves in the kiln. Fits nicely in the hand to hold your morning orange juice.

Designer: White Bike Ceramics, Brooklyn, NY
3 1/2″ high, 2 3/8″ diameter (note: picture on right shows large tumblers)

Tom Dixon: Eco Ware Cup Set (4)

The Eco Ware line is the result of experimenting with biodegradeable plastics made from compressed natural materials such as byproducts of coconut, rice and bamboo processing. Tom Dixon created this line of biodegradeable plates, bowls and cups dubbed Eco Ware . This elegant line of sustainable tableware is 85% bamboo bound with a water-soluble polymer.

Eco Ware is fine enough for formal occasions, tough enough for the outdoors, and robust enough for every-day use. The best part is that after a long functional life (5 years give or take), the Eco Ware objects can be recyled into plant pots or simply composted back to the earth.

Size (each cup): 4.25″ height x 4″ width

New York City Skyline Tumbler by Nicci Green, 2007

The delicate line drawing on this tumber is just enough detail, plus, it’s New York City, so who wouldn’t like that?

“Crafted by hand using partially recycled glass, this tumbler shows the iconic New York City skyline in a simple line drawing. The hand blowing process used to create the tumbler results in subtle ripples and striations, adding to the individuality of each piece. Hand-wash recommended.”

Keyaki Wood Tea Cups

I wonder how well wood conducts heat? I’m tempted to buy these; they look so comfortable to hold, plus, they seem more natural than the ceramic mugs we’re all used to.

“Keyaki wood is a Japanese elm and has been much prized for centuries by Japanese woodworkers for the dramatic and beautiful grain. Each teacup is carved from a single block of wood and has a unique pattern. They are light and wonderful to hold in the hand. Set of 4.”
