Tabletop

Alfredo Carafe

The stopper on this carafe looks like it could double as a spinning top, though I suppose you would want to be rather careful about suggesting that to (childish) guests, as you’d not want it lost or damaged. That said, it’d be a lovely serving vessel for lemonade or juice for these last few days of summer.

Picnic Corkscrew by Menu

Here’s a handy wine corkscrew to add to your picnic basket or pocket. The Picnic Corkscrew’s case becomes the handle, so it’s relatively compact to carry around. Soft, grooved silicone ensures a safe grip when opening the bottle. Designed by Jakob Wagner.

Seletti Atomizers

Certain scents for the home and table are gaining popularity, and, as you might be aware, there’s all sorts of options to add and mix fragrances to enhance a dining (or shopping) experience. Now, you might not like the idea of adding scents to your already excellent culinary experience at home, but these Atomizers by Seletti are done beautifully in mouth blown glass, and could just as easily be admired as art forms as they are containers. As Seletti says, “the forms, unexpected on the table, outline a new gestural expressiveness towards food.” They could just as easily hold a favorite personal fragrance as well, which might be a more likely use for most of us.

Melting Mug by Studio Arhoj

The thick glaze of the Melting Mug will hopefully give you a better grip so you don’t spill your tea/coffee all over your desk/boss/coworker. Each mug is made of hand-cast porcelain and will fit nicely in the hand, especially as the mug is similar in shape to traditional Japanese Yunomi tea cups. Available in pink, mint, yellow, white, and gray.

Plum Cocktail Shaker

Let’s be honest: some of Tom Dixon’s products look like they should be on the altar of some strange, futuristic church (Cog Candelabra) or else an excellent receptacle for cremains (Beat Vessel). That might sound a little morbid or serious, but I mean it as a compliment. For instance, the Plum Cocktail Shaker could easily live in some sacred place with its bright copper plating. However, considering its purpose, best use it as intended; you’ll enjoy it more that way. The tapered ends help make the shaker easier to grip and the cap functions as a spirit measure or shot glass.

Perimeter Tray

I know, a serving tray is not on the top of your list on this Monday morning after the holiday weekend. I wouldn’t care much either, except it’s the Perimeter Tray, and if you remember from our previous post last year, it normally retails for $195. And now MoMA Store has it on sale for $139.95 ($125.95 members). That’s a price that one could afford for a nice tray made of reclaimed walnut hardwood veneer, isn’t it?

Long Drink Set

If you’ve not seen Cool Hand Luke, you need to watch it this summer, preferably with a cool drink poured from the pitcher of this Long Drink Set. Now, this set isn’t cheap like the loads of plastic pitchers and tumblers stuffing the shelves of every store right now, but it does add an air of sophistication no matter the event. Each piece is hand crafted using age old glass blowing techniques and is presented in a nice gift box, so it’s also an option for a very nice gift- maybe for a wedding?

Arne Jacobsen espresso cups

All you Arne Jacobsen fans should be drinking out of these espresso cups, numbered 1-4 to accompany the regular letter cups, when you have your hit of caffeine. And you thought your kitchen cupboard could hold no more Bauhaus inspired typography, well, happy days, you were wrong. These cups are small enough to work as tealight holders too, fyi.

Amuze Salad Set, Stripe

Yep, they’re salad servers. Not for the more traditional tabletop, of course, but for those of us that prefer the very modern take on just about everything, they tick the right box. There’s something a little science fiction about them, don’t you think? As if they’d look right at home in 2060, if robots haven’t taken over salad serving by then. There’s also a serving set ($33.90) to match, fyi.

Kebo Bottle Opener

If you’re opening a bottle, you should probably have both hands on board, but we’ll make one small exception for this bottle opener. Now your other hand can be free to wave at your friends, show off your other bicep, your amazing coordination skills (juggling?), or maybe even get two Kebo Bottle Openers so you’ll look like a cowboy bartender with his/her Six Shooters. That’s my vote. Rush Dixon, the designer, was inspired by the Theodore Low bottle opener from the 1930s.

Beer Foamer

It is what it is: a Beer Foamer. What’s the point of that? Well, to those of you that are craft beer aficionados, you know that the “complete beer experience” includes those precious bubbles, and when you pour beer from a bottled or can, it just doesn’t have the same effect. So, that’s where this little device from Norm Architects comes in. A clear, shatterproof container holds your beer while the copper top supports the foaming device. A press of the button will create the dense foam you’d expect straight from the tap. It’s as simple as that.

Constellations Napkin Set

I consider it my duty to inform you of any and all items with constellations as decoration, as long as they are decent and/or notable, so, of course, you have to see this napkin set. Napkins are an excellent alternative to your sleeve for keeping your face and hands clean while eating, and I would suggest adding a set to your tabletop if you’ve not already. Your guests will approve of your nice table manners and be forced to act civilized. It’s a win/win situation.
