Biodegradable Plates, Cups + Utensils

It’s one of those miracle products (they’re out there, just sometimes hard to find): 100% biodegradable plates, cups and utensils. Made from compostable sugar cane fiber (utensils from potato starch/vegetable oil), these products could be considered best friends with the environment. Hurray for easy clean up that doesn’t hurt anybody.
“These disposable (and biodegradable, and compostable) dinnerware pieces are designed for elegant entertaining, indoors or out. They’re attractive, unbleached, FDA-approved food-safe, and they’re much sturdier than standard paper plates. (They’re comparable to Chinet™ brand plates.) Not only are they made from renewable resources (see above), they’re microwavable, freezer safe, oil resistant, and capable of handling hot foods and beverages. After use, this product can be recycled for the making of paper, or 100% catabolized as compost.
The potato-starch cutlery is sturdy, attractive, reusable, and suitable for hot foods up to 220° F. It will biodegrade within 180 days in a commercial composting facility, but is currently only certified for biodegradability under the ISO 14855 standards. (Certification under the ASTM standards for compostability is in process.)”
